how to get to pin 13 remote wire?

I searched and didnt see any documentation on how exactly to get to the back of my headunit. Im trying to add a amp to my E92 with EP sound and was told, go for pin13.

But how the heck to I get to the back of the headunit? Can anyone help me?

Thank you.

Whats the PS8?

And is PIN 13 located on the harness that they show in that video? The harness with the two blue plastic things in parallel?

God this is a PITA for something so simple! Im shocked there is no DIY for the remote wire. I can do this. I just want clear instructions so I dont mess something up.

That connector is called the Quadralock. Pin 13 (thin black wire) is in that connector and nowhere else in the back of the iDrive. You either remove the iDrive to get to the thin black wire in the Quadralock or try to find it behind the left back cushion of the rear seat, as it goes to the antenna amplifier in the roof.

You can create the DIY for others to see. The video is quite illustrating in accessing the Quadralock and even tapping some wires.

Great, thank you for confirming this. Im just wanted to be 100% certain before I touch anything in my car. I will look for the thin black wire behind the idrive. The other location you speak off sounds nice, but what left side? Faceing front or back of car left side? I assume you mean driver side?

And since ive seen this asked more than once, I will make a DIY for the others. Just seems silly that no one has made one. Considering you answer 98% of the technical questions, perhaps this might help you too. So your not repeating yourself a million times.

Thanks for the help!

Any issues with the AMP turning on or off with the radio? Like, when you turn car off, but the radio still plays. Do your subs turn off to soon? Anything like that?

What about when you turn the stereo on. Do you subs pop at all?

And thank you for the suggestion!

Whether or not it's related to this, I am not sure, but at times, right at startup, I get some nasty noises coming from the passenger floor sub. Other than that, no issues.

Oh.

Ive heard rumors that not using the remote line off the stereo can cause such a thing because of the timing of the power to the aftermarket amp or something along those lines.

But you mentioned your stock subs make the noise. Are those being powered off your aftermarket amp now by chance?

Thanks again for the info!

Nothing is powered by the aftermarket amp except for my JL sub. So unless the harness is causing it or the remote wire is, I'm not sure.

Interesting... To be honest, I dont know either. I just remember someone or some thread saying to use the remote trigger off the radio.

I would think your JL would be making that noise if anything. But what do I know...

Supposedly there is a new wire under the rear seat that will do the remote that VP Electricity posted about in one of my threads. I only used the one in the fuse panel cause Technic confirmed that it was the one.

I see. Well, I would do whatever he says. He seems to be the authority around here.

Im going to search your threads for more information about where that remote trigger under the seat is.

I don't recommend any tapping of wires in the fuse panel, only in the Quadralock at pin 13... are you sure it was me or what you refer as the "fuse panel" is in fact the Quadralock?

IIRC, you confirmed the fuse panel being the only location to get the remote. So maybe I have the remote in the wrong place then? I have it directly in the fuse panel behind the glove compartment. So what is the correct spot?

Driver side is the left side.

The thin black wire runs via the left side of the car towards the back of the roof, where the antenna amplifier is. The thin black wire turns on the antenna amplifier.

VP Electricity found that wire in the harness behind the left corner cushion of the back seat. That cushion is located behind the left rear chest seat belt. If you have folding seats then that cushion is removable. If there is no folding seats then the cushion is part of the whole back seat.

Thanks, that will help owners of the Logic7, EPS and Stereo systems looking for the OEM remote wire.

Not me... I only recommend the Quadralock pin 13 in the back of the iDrive as the OEM remote turn on signal wire.
