Emissions Fault?

The fault warning, Service Engine Soon, came on yesterday.
The iDrive computer indicates an emissions fault.
Is this most likely a failure of an O2 sensor?

We need a sticky that says to read the codes before posting you have an SES or increased emissions given that it could be *anything* from your gas cap not being tight to a busted motor.
