Key Fob Failure

After I got my BMW back from the dealership and drove it home, I got out of the car and pressed the lock button on the fob and it didn't respond.
I then tried unlock/trunk as well and nothing.. I grabbed my spare and tried it out, and it worked perfectly..

My question is, should I make the dealership replace the fob and how much is a new one?? (I plan on making them replace it)

Maybe it lost it's charge. You have to once in awhile insert it in to maintain charge.

It couldn't have lost it's charge, it's the main one I use.
Any other possibilities??

I'd guess your battery went bad then. The batteries are replaceable. A new key costs around $200-225 programmed.

I wouldn't be surprised if the dealer did a switch-a-roo with your battery or something. They might have even dropped it.

On top of that they had my car waxed without asking me and left several spots unbuffed, just waiting to be caked in.. -___- Looked/Looks terrible..

If it's the battery, then I guess I will replace it myself.. If somehow it is messed up, I will make them fix it/give me a new one.

EDIT: After reading some sites, I've learned that my battery should never need replacement and it should charge automatically..

No, the battery can go bad and it does need to be replaced from time to time. It recharges when it's in the keyhole when you drive. The owner's manual even says you replace the battery from time to time.

You may simply have a bad remote. It happened to me while I was away on a trip. I had to use the metal key to unlock my doors, but when when I would insert the keyfob into the slot, the car would start normally.

BMW replaced the remote portion of the keyfob under warranty, otherwise it would cost about $250. In order to get a new one, you have to verify your identity and apparently have the replacement sent from Germany.

Apparently it became 'un-synced' from the bmw..
Made a trip to the dealership, he fooled around with it in the ignition and door for a little while and it was as good as new.
