Dsc malfunction/ Wipers

I have done some searching and have seen a couple issues with these two concerns but nothing exactly like what I have. Based on the other threads it may be time to replace the battery.

I got this car only a month ago. It's a 11 e92 with 35000 miles. Probably factory battery (?). This same exact issue has happened to me 5 times now. Always with the engine running and at a stop either just finishing a drive or just started up to go for a drive my dsc malfunction light and message comes up. A few seconds later the wipers begin to wipe at a constant pace. No matter what I do with the wiper switch they keep going and randomly stop usually a minute or so after. No other issues at all.

What do you M guys think?

We bought my daughter a large, fake horse that she could actually sit on. If you squeezed its ear, it would make your typical horse noises. One night, around 3am, it decided to make those noises and woke me up. This was slightly creepy as nobody else was awake. Luckily, I've owned enough BMWs to know that weird things happen when your battery is failing. After replacing the batteries, which were located in its stomach, the horse fell back in line. I was able to return to only waking up to my own nightmares.

I suggest replacing the battery, certainly if it's the factory original and over 5-years-old. It fixed my horse, it could fix your car.

This.

Until you pull codes and post them, anything is just a guess.

Thanks. I will work on pulling the codes. Just was hoping with how specific my issue is and the wipers starting to wipe somebody would have had that before.

So I finally got my Carly in the mail and was able to do a bit of diagnostics. Pulled the codes in the DSC.

005D97-sensor cluster
00D373-SWA Top sensor F-Can
00D372-Sensor cluster 3
00D371-Cluster 2 sensor
005E51-Wrong serial number
005E3F-Coding errors
005D96-Left front direction Detection
005DA6- Right front direction Detection

I cleared the codes and will see what gets stored the next time I get the DSC error.

Also I noticed when I was coding a few things using Carly, even though I just had the car running for 15 minutes, when I attempted a code with the engine off it would not allow me as the battery voltage was below 12.5v. Seems to me the battery is poor as it cannot hold 12.5+ even for a minute after engine shutdown.

That's fairly low. Most auto parts stores will do free battery tests. Swing by after work ASAP -- you don't want to get stranded.

Update with this thread so it may someday help somebody else...

As stated in upper posts I had about 12.4 volts right after shutting the car down. A normal lead plate acid battery typically sits at 12.6 fully charged. A AGM battery fully charged sits at 12.8/9 My battery was nearly a half volt below where it should be and with how sensitive these cars seem to be with voltage that was enough.

I replaced the battery with an advanced Auto parts Platinum h8 agm battery and programmed with Carly. Have been driving it for days now and the issue I had has not happened. Fingers crossed it stays that way but sure seems like it solved my issue.

So bad news. It's been about a week since battery replacement and I have the exact same issue. Pulled codes

00D370- sensor cluster message missing
00D371- cluster sensor 2
00D372- sensor cluster 3 message
00D373- SWA top sensor
005D97- sensor cluster

I will be doing some searching now for old threads but any input is appreciated.

So I finally resolved my issue.

The codes I had use a term sensorcluster which I have never heard before. After extensive research online for the codes I have and even using my login to all data and searching for any info I finally found my answer after almost no results.

Sensorcluster is actually the YAW rate sensor that is bolted to the body under the drivers seat. This sensor is used by the DSC system to recognize when the back end of the car is moving laterally. Therefore this is the sensor used to keep you from spinning out.

I removed my seat and underseat speaker to take a picture of the sensor. Searched all over online and couldn't find a new one and didn't want to go to the dealer. I found a bunch on ebay used for 50-100$. Ordered one and installed it. I attached the image from alldata where it states it needs to be programed after installation. I have yet to program mine as carly doesn't have this option. The sensor however has solved my issue and my dsc works properly with no errors.

Also the wipers only would malfunction after the dsc malfunction so since the dsc is fixed I have no wiper issues anymore.

Hope this helps somebody else.

I got this error message today and am wondering if I need to replace the same sensor.

I would appreciate any help.

OP, pretty cool you have access to alldata, do you work in a shop?

And thanks for posting, this appears to be one of those more infrequent fails that can be tough to diagnose. Battery replacement is the “goto” for many stray tron symptoms.

Horse thing is kinda creepy.

Yea I do work in a shop. This is an old post now that was brought back to life by the last poster but I spoke with him through pm and told him he does need the sensor too. My car has been driven thousands of miles since this repair and have not seen the DSC light once. It's for sure a confirmed repair.

Yea the battery replacement was kind of a waste but at least I am good for a few years now

Well, this solution did not work for me.

I purchased the part from ebay and installed it this morning. Started the car and the same error message and code appeared. (Unless I'm missing a step somewhere).

I guess it's possible that the replacement part is defective as well, but I doubt it.

I'm probably going to start a new thread and see if I can reach a broader audience.

Thanks.

My problem turned out to be the DSC control unit.
