Test drove and M3 Today
Hi All, I'm new to this forum, been a lurker for a while but never posted. Went to see a couple of dealers today, initially I was interested in a Monte Carlo edition bur next to it was parked a a Dakar Yellow, well it's a marmite colour but I loved it.
It had so much presence which iI feel is just the tonic for an M car. It's a big gamble as a colour but it looked really cool and fresh... It was a DCT equiped car and the salesman let me open her up a little and the sound was very nice, and it pulled like a train higher up the rev range, the speed it pilled on was incredible.. I drive a 360bhp Scooby Spe-c which is very quick and this felt in the same league.. Will be trying to do a deal in the coming days. |

How did you find the handling/genaral feel of the m3 compared to the scooby?
Dakar is love it or hate it colour but if you want to get noticed it gets the job done. As for sticking your finger up at jerez M3 owners....i have just ordered my E90 M3 in jerez black, always loved black - and i like the fact that on the M3 its a bit stealthy. All depends on what youre trying to achieve i suppose, the car is the same irrespective of colour. |

My last 1 series was metalic black and my wife now has one too.. II did not get a chance to push the car and not being used to it was probably a wise thing. It felt very planted and there was less lean than my Subaru but around a tight around about I could certainly feel the extra weight the M3 carries, the salesman said 'I thought you were going to go sideways then' |

Stock STI suspension allows you to throw the STI into corners but when you're pushing it really hard there is noticeable understeer, whereas the M3 felt the opposite as it goes wherever you point it! Ride comfort wasn't comparable to me, as any squeaks and rattles I felt in my Subaru were gone in the M3. You certainly feel the weight in the M3 (+/- 300lbs), but it adds to the secure feeling of the car. Overall the scoob is a tremendous car with raw power that can be thrown into corners and played with throughout the entire rev range. I would love to keep mine and use it on the track!!

Thing is guys, I'm used ot NA engines as well as Turbo, I've had a coupel of very fast EVO's and Some tuned honda K20A's and I love the rev happy engines and apprecaite that you need to rev the nuts off sometimes to apprecaite the engine and get the most out of the performance.
To the guy with the Sti that was understeery, yes the standard Sti is but the Spec-c is a whole different kettle of fish, no understeer at all, much more like an EVO at the front but with a very nice reat bias. |
