Audi S6 vs. M3

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...s6-test-review

Scenario
S6 rolling up fast behind me, flashes lights right behind me, then it is on. Let him roll up a little closer so we're about the same speed.

By all accounts S6 should of dusted me on the highway, but it didn't?!? Dropped the hammer into 4th, hit 8400 rpm, and he couldn't keep up...waited for him to roll up again for another "test" as a good sport, but no-go this guy...

Not that beating a fast boat is anything to brag about but I've always wanted to post in the VS. M3 section...

Are you sure it was the 2013 S6?

With what is going on out there with new S6, (2013) E63AMG and S8, they should all leave M3 with a view of their tails at least from get go.

I would like to know how the new M4 will compare to E63's predicted 0-60 3.4 sec acceleration.

Also, if it was the 2013 S6, he could of been possibly on his break in period where he just let you go.....

Definitely a 2013 S6, given the badge, wheels, light config - I saw it clear as day when he pulled up close.

Break-in I guess could of been a factor, but the guy had his real plates on which would indicate he has had the car for about a month's time. Don't know how many M owners have met the break in period in 2 weeks or less

Also, I did hear him rev that engine when he dropped the hammer, he was not taking it easy to say the least. I guess my ESS Tune gave me a slight edge perhaps, who knows, but I was surprised to have beat him up to the top of 4th gear (you can guess the speed at that point...)

Love the new S6-S7 and the RS7 headed for the US is awesome looking. If I had 110-120 looking for a performance sedan it would be a tough call. RS7 - M5 - M6 GC - Panamera GTS.

Definitely a strong segment right now with all the new additions.

At freeway speeds, our cars with bolt-ons or stock are pretty quick when at speed...the 0-60 time is actually the weakest stat of the M3 given the power curve and wheel torque (too much) at launch, but at speed, it's a pretty fast car. I was in several very similar situations on the highway (with no traffic) with an E60 M5, IS-F, Ferrari 360, Ferrari F-430, and Porsche Carrera 4s. In all situations, no one could either close the gap (actually widened) if behind me, or pull away if in front. The F-430 I suspect the driver may have not been revving as high as he should have, as I believe there were still MTs in those cars, whereas I was using the full powerband to redline in 3rd..he really should have pulled away plain and simple, but for whatever reason I was closing in until I let up. The only vehicle that I could never pull on (was from a dig) was a modded/lightened 335i/is. Once we both hit the highway, I eventually pulled away.

why is everyone acting as if the s6 is some top fuel dragster? how fast are they in a straight line anyway? They only have 420 hp but weigh 4400 lb. Yeah 406 lb ft of torque is a lot but that only matters at lower rpm

hmmmm, I think there's only one post here that claims that the S6 is a "top fuel dragster"...

+1
i raced the old v10 s6 and he couldn't keep up, im sure he had an exhaust other than that not sure. Also a Carrera 4s (convertible) highway pull i left him behind. as long as you have the car in the right gear and in the power band your good to go.

Also have to factor in drivers skill and who's got balls to push there car hard. I see a lot of driver like to roll up and start a little something as soon as speeds hit triple digits they back off this has typical been my experience. More often then not it's usual case of bad driver with little or no skill that's is deciding factor in so many races especially on street.

Perhaps he realized that by engaging in a street race he was just being a tool and endangering those around him and decided that it simply was not worth it?

I suppose if there are phantom cars on an early AM highway. Hmmm...only a tool would assume such a thing...hmmm...let me see...oh!...you're the Tool!, Tool.

Got to admit, I was waiting for someone to give me grief about street racing and waiting to throw it in their face, thanks bud!

Once rolling the M3 is faster than the S6. 100-200 kmh for M3 is 10.9s while for S6 is 11.3s.

The M3 shines at high speeds.

it's because you have the superior 2013 model. we 2008-2012 owners would have been dusted by the S6

By Class of 2013, you mean High School right? Racing threads are always more fun when the OP is overly sensitive to other members who think street racing is immature... the thread takes on a whole new dimension that just isn't there when the OP has a thicker skin.

I love it when people rag on my threads, it's the best I agree, almost great that I got the "immature" comment from both of you now. keep it up.

If I'm not mistaken, you're the guy bragging about driving 100 plus with his kid in the back seat - now, that's not funny at all.

Um... you are very mistaken. I have never and would never drive in any way other than completely responsible with anyone else in the car... ESPECIALLY with my children in the car. Not sure where you get that from... I'm not a street racer... I take it to the track with the grown ups.

Also, I called you sensitive not immature (well, maybe I inferred it but that was just in jest ).

I was getting the "immature" part from the Class of 2013 comment you mentioned, which is funny I totally don't take any of this seriously, but I love dishing it back when I get the chance - sooo fun.

Nope. Either he wasn't racing or you are mistaken.

The v10 m5/6 is an animal over 60mph and would absolutely destroy a non sc m3. Tons of vids on YouTube demonstrate the result...
