Would you buy this car?
Would you buy a 08 coupe that had been in an accident for $47k?
The original owner took a corner too fast and popped a curb and hit a fire hydrant with the left fender causing damage to all 4 wheels, some suspension components, and the left fender. Although not needed, the whole car was repainted. All repairs were done by a Bmw dealer, all parts were replaced with new BMW parts and there was no frame damage. I took the car to a body shop and another BMW dealer and both said the work done on the car was excellent. The car has nearly all options except m-dct and park distance , and drives perfectly. The car only has 3700 miles. |

In my unqualified opinion, the car will never be the same.

No smart person would buy it, and you already know that. This is the second thread you start trying to justify to yourself buying it. If you want to buy it, just do it man. But most likely you'd regret it. If you can't afford a pristine example now, wait until you can. Buying a car with so much damage, especially when it has fragile aluminum subframes and suspension components is utterly stupid IMO. I can almost guarantee you not every single part that needed to be replaced was replaced, which is typical in any such accident.
With a few grand more, you could buy a perfect example, and most importantly, you'd get that extra money at resale. Something that WILL NOT happen with that other car. Good luck. |

You guys dont like buying used cars? WHY? Let me hear...cuz you dont know how it was broken in?
You're all just trying to make yourself feel better since you have already lost $20k by buying new. Nothing wrong with buying a used car, as long as you do all your hw. Sometimes, its ok to buy a car thats been in minor accident too, most likely you end up saving even more. In OP's case, this car had way too much damage to even consider buying it... |

There was a comment passed, and I happened to agree with it. It's not about being against buying any used car, but about buying a used 'high-performance car'. The reason being is because I feel that a previous owner may tend to push the 'high-performance' car much harder than just a regular car.....And there can be too much to worry about when owning a used high-performance vehicle. If you disagree, that's perfectly fine. Excuse my thread jacking......Please continue. |

Anyhow, you have many good points and, to tell you the truth, my next daily driver will probably be a used car. So, in theory I agree with you that, if you do your homework, you could probably find a car that had been properly cared for by a car nut like me (or you???), which would be a great financial decision. But truth be told, I tried that when I was looking for a used e46 M3 but was unfortunately not successful... which led me to order my e92... I have not looked back ever since!!!

If you're even thinking about it then definately. Why not. You know its used, you know its crashed and repaired. Have fun with it. And you won't feel as bad if you smack it up and I think it will allow you to have more fun with it knowing it can take it.
Good luck. |

for 47k you can buy a used non-accident m3. If your going to spend 47k you can spend 50k and you have a decent amount of cars to choose from

Wow, rarely do we have such a landslide decision around here. DCT vs. MT? Split. 19s vs. 18s. Still a pretty good split. Fox Red or Black leather? Split. Eisenmann or AA? Split.
I'm just used to much more of this or this or this . Not that I disagree with the results of this poll in any way! It's just unusual. Well, I think it's time to get off the forum for this and some of this . |
