Agreed. Knowing the dealer's "cost" shouldn't really make a difference in what you are willing to pay. Who knows, maybe they paid $45k and are selling it to you for $45,500, but they netted $7k out of the sale of the new car that trade was involved in.

Garage List
It's useless data if it was a trade-in. They inflate the car price and the trade-in price or deflate them both to get the net they want. It is all a game in used cars. Most profit can be made on used cars because of this. You won't ever know what they have in it.

Dealer Cost

Hello everyone... Its pretty simple... as I read a thread earlier theres a few scenarios... just because i over payed for a care doesnt mean that you should pay 2k more to make up for my mistake... just the same if im fortunate enough to buy a preowned car at a great price why do I (the dealer) have to sell it to you at that price.... im sure many of you have bought homes in the past 10 years, and when the market was good no one was saying ohh I only payed 300k for this I CAN NOT sell this to you for 600K. Absolutely not you went ahead and made the profit... why is it not fair for a dealer to make a fair profit.

I asked a dealer to show me their cost on a used car once and they agreed. I paid a lot less than they got it for.

The OP (fongpi) has been starting a lot of stupid threads lately... time to ban him.

Here is an example of another stupid thread he started a few days ago:

Is it true that a new M3 is actually cheaper than a used one?

I'd never tell my customers how much I paid for a product they just purchased. I'm a business man. If I show them my cost then I'm just man with not business.

It wasn't BS. Sometimes dealer's take a loss on cars. They just wanted to move the car, they had it for something like 90 days.

edit: I saw their inventory sheet with my own eyes. Awful lot of effort to fake that.
