I still have faith in the M3. Its all up to Sportauto supertest or a few comparisons with C63 and RS4 to convince me M3 still is the ultimate driving machine. If not, maybe I should join the Lexus fanatics instead.

I agree - the devasting analysis offered by some of the signatories could not be the work of mere amateurs.

I don't like understeer, light steering, and fade-prone brakes, but I certainly don't want my M3 to be "raw" and definitely not like the E46, which was both raw and a merely good handling sports coupe. I have raw in my Porsche. I've had raw in a Lotus and in a Morgan. Raw is great and exotic, but it's not everday food. Why would you bother with a 4 seat car if you wanted "raw"? Give me powerful, smooth, precise, with just enough feedback -- with four seats and cargo space.

EXACTLY. There is a continuum of possible designs from tempermental race car to plush Cadillac cruiser. The M3 always has sat much closer to the first rather than the ladder. With each generation it seem to migrate in a certain direction. I think the jury is still (way) out on whether this generation will be a significant migration. Anyway, totally agree with your post, spot on.

What total crap

Heck we don't even have a full road test nor performance stats yets (we do know it will out run an F360 0-1000m though!).

This is exaclty like the E46 bashing when it came out as well as all those knocking the looks of the E92 M3 when we got our first glimpse. Stop the wholesale panic.

UGH!

You have got to be kidding me....gone soft? I don't think it has gone soft but maybe BMW didn't take it far enough..... There is no doubt that this car will beat the old e46; however, I just hesitate to say that it will take the competition. The competition has gotten a lot smarter and BMW really had to raise the bar even higher than ever before....now I am thinking that maybe we were all expecting too much....

Maybe you're right. Or maybe get a brain of your own and take a test-drive instead of letting a few magazine articles make your decision for you.

OK that reply was a bit harsh but what can you expect from the faithful. They are not being blindly faithful, there is good reason for some optimism. Christ, for the millionth time we don't even have a full road test published yet nor TESTED performance specs.

You must have expected at least a bit of back lash of this type. I have been providing my back lash where I think it is appropriate.
