Poker set

Looking to get into playing poker with friends. Can you guys recommend a nice set, high quality poker set?

Thinking about picking up this set- http://www.meijer.com/s/500-piece-tr...id=101080pc500

Do most people go with 500 chip sets or higher?

Just... No. Coins are too small to be shuffled. Don't have that feel at all.

Allot depends on the playing style, i.e. big buy in pots, cash games vs. tourney's, and the number of people at the table.

I would say 500 chips is enough for a decent home game. I personally recommend going for clay poker chips, they are the best. Heavy feel to them, not slippery. A good 500pc set will set you back about 150 but its well worth it.

I bought a nice set off ebay. The weight is casino style, and I bought a 7 color set with denomination on it. Most of my cards are actual casino cards that have been cycled out of use at the casinos, they are broken in and have a nice feel to them by the time they are distributed.

Something kind of like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1000-11-5g-C...item483f56ad3b

only with 7 colors, not 5. The higher denomination was purple and orange.

Depending how many people you plan to have over, this could be a nice set:

Although, you will have chips left over unless you want to start with a lot. I know you said high quality, but I have used mine for years now with no problems at all, and probably at about three times a month or so.

As others have said, a set of 500 is good, but if you are going to be doing any kind of larger games, you will have some pretty short stacks to start out with. Of course, you can always have somebody else pony up the money for another set. I would recommend getting clay chips as well, they have a better feel to them between the weight, ability to shuffle them and really never get slippery. I personally have about 2000 chips but we have 2 groups of 10 that come and play almost every Saturday and Sunday.

Never thought about ebay but those sets look great (and pretty cheap to boot). I might get that 1000 set. I'm not sure if I should get ones with denomination though.

If you use the denomination there is never any question about what a chip is worth for anybody playing the game. We have had times where somebody brings another person and there is always a lot of confusion about what color represents a given amount of cash. If you don't see that being an issue, then go without.

I personally dont like the ones with denomination because depending on who I play with we change what they are worth.
