hey guys,
I just ran over some debris on the highway and now my front left tire is busted.

called BMW assist. they are going to tow me to a dealership.

anyone know how much replacing this tire will cost me? can I get this tire online cheaper and have dealer put it on for me? can I use my insurance? I also have a body damage(large deep scratch). maybe I can file it under the same claim? pay one deductible?

Sorry to hear of your bad luck. Remember that if you have a fair amount of wear on the other tires you will need to consider changing at least the other side of the new one if not all four. Since one new tire and three worn ones may not provide the best handling. Try tirerack they have always done right by me, the dealer will just charge you full price......Steve

Wheel and tire damage is not covered under the bumper to bumper warranty

if you have wheel and tire insurance they should cover the cost of the tire (and wheel if it's also damaged)

The body damage to your car would be a claim against your regular auto insurance. In fact you may end up having to claim everything against your insurance, especially if you don't have a wheel/tire policy.

If your wheel is damaged a replacement OEM rim costs around $600 18" or $1000 19"

A new tire costs around $300 - $350

Plus another $50 - $100 for labor

Your body damage is probably going to be $500 or more if it means repainting part of the body

So realistically you're looking at anywhere from $500 to $2000+ depending on the exact damage

Option 1: Patch it. Some say this is not a good idea on performance tires. Your call.

Option 2: Replace tire. Use the same brand/model of tire (Michelin PS2, or the Continental Conti Sport 3 are the OEM tires) as the others. If you have more than say 5000+ miles and you drive pretty hard then you might think of replacing the other front tire too. If you have more than say 10,000 miles you probably want to replace all four tires.

Check tirerack on line for replacement tire prices (probably around $300/tire). Then plan on about $50 for installing and balancing it.

i had it towed to the dealer and just had them price match tireracks's price on the ps2.

What do you guys think if I just replaced my two front tires with these....not factory stock and the trend is different from my rear. but does it matter all that much?

True but if you have to, keep tires the same on each axle. Also, try to at least keep them in the same performance bracket.

I got a flat two weeks into ownership. Luckily I bought the tire/road hazard warranty...I have OEM PS2's 19"

$475 bucks for replacement and labor. But....warranty covered everything. ...granted I had no rim damage......so it was just the tire. Like Fstop said, if you dont have the warranty...looking at 500-2000 bro.

Don't put those cheap all season tires on your M3 if you care about performance. If you don't care about performance and just wanna get some cheaper tires that will last longer then go for it. Those will work better in the winter and last much longer than the PS2s, but they really aren't meant for an M3.

Guess you're not familiar with how good all-season tires can be. If you don't track your car, maximum summer performance tires are absolute overkill, not to mention they're crap in cold weather. Ultra-high-performance all-season tires are just a notch below max summer. Read a recent tire article and those were almost identical in the dry, but much better everywhere else. Even the high-performance all-seasons are plenty for what you can do on the streets, and most high-performance cars come with those standard (with summer tires as a no-cost option).
Same with motorcycle tires. I dragged hard parts on my sport-tourers with sport-touring tires and never, ever had a hiccup with them. No way I'd ride any faster on public roads, so why fit sport tires that only last half as long? Same thing, but to each his own.

I had a flat in my rear left tire... got it last week.. pain the ass..

first went to a tire patch specialist on west side of NYC. He said because nail was near the sidewall, did not feel comfortable patching.

Went to BMW Manhattan - person there recommended I replace the left one, and also the right rear tire as worn down. Also suggested a tire alignment.

In total, got it for $420 a tire (includes service) and $99 for the alignment. NYC Tax a killer though so had to pay 8.875% on top of that...

Happy with decision to do
