I won't do anything to your car.

Sorry?

You look worried,
like I'll do something to your car.

I worry about this car everywhere.
Don't take it personally.

It's just a car, man.

No, it's not "just a car." It's a BMW.

Anyone who knows anything
about that company...

...knows that it's more than "just a car."

Anybody who knows about that company?

So I wouldn't know anything like that.

No, that's not what I meant.

Last thing I knew about BMW...

...was it made plane engines
when it first started.

A guy by the name of Franz Popp
started it all.

Franz Popp. I like that name.

Made this one engine before .
It flew six miles up.

Popp and his boys
were just getting started.

They made this one engine, the
World War II, cylinders...

... horsepower, seven miles up.

With more time, they'd have bombed
the shit out of England...

...maybe even won the war.

That's where this comes from.

White propeller zipping around a blue sky.

After the war, we told them
they couldn't make plane engines.

That's when BMW
gave some serious thought to making cars.

Kind of like this one.

You probably knew all that,
seeing as you lease one.

Thanks for the history lesson.

No problem, man.

YES! That is it. I was searching Forester under IMDB, but it is Forrester... You would think the search engine would be a bit more forgiving. See, my friend is currently pissed at some neighbors he has that both own BMW's. He, being a previous E30 M3 owner but now current Grand Cherokee soccer dad, gets agitated when folks talk like they know everything about their car but when asked what BMW stands for or what the Roundel symbolizes and they don't know, he gets bent.

My thing is that not all folks are enthusiasts like some. I don't ask every VW or Ford or Dodge or Harley owner what the history of their vehicles company is. I wouldn't expect them to know it. SO, I blame this movie for making everyone think that they know oh so much about BMW and use this little line from this flick to try to punk someone out. AND if you don't know the aviation background to BMW then you are just a douche bag flaunting his mad moniez...

You see? (I did like the flick and that scene was pretty good)

thanks for the correction.

Movie was correct regarding "bombing". BMW engines were used in Do-17 bomber aircrafts, the backbone of the bomber fleet for the Luftwaffe. though I wouldn't say "time" was the reason why Germany lost the Battle of Britain, i argue equipment and manpower shortage. Also implying a better BMW aircraft engine could have made the difference is also a stretch, the majority of aircraft engines were manufactured by Junkers during WWII, BMW was only working on a long range design and a turbojet which everyone else was working on as well.

I also think another major factor in them losing the Battle of Britain is due to the tactics that Hitler was using. In the beginning stages of the battle I believe that Germany was starting to gain an advantage over Britain due to concentrating their efforts on knocking out the radar stations and airfields along the English Channel, but after a British bombing run at night bombed Berlin, Hitler was infuriated by it and ordered the Luftwaffe to start bombing London and other major cities. If they would have continued to bomb the airfields, then the whole course of the war might have been very different. Sorry big history buff.

yes agreed, i think the general turn in strategy was the turning point of the battle. It truely will go down in history as one of the greatest military battles.

Gotta disagree here - I've seen BMW literature which states the roundel is based on the idea of a prop wash, inasmuch as they originally built aircraft. If those are the colors of the Bavarian flag or province it may be a coincidence.

The blue and white colors are from the the Bavarian flag. The factory PR dude even said so when I was getting a factory tour in Regensburg to see my M3 being built. But, before you start the tour they show you a video about the history of BMW. At one point they show plane headon with the prop spinning and slowly superimpose the logo over the spinning prop.

Logo was registered in 1917, the first airplane add was in 1929 that showed that they use BMW engines.

Gee, maybe the roundel logo symbolizes both their Bavarian heritage AND the aviation history of the company.

But I think I should add that movie to my netflix Q... It's mostly about chess, right? I think I saw it years ago.
