Could you please go back and look at your service invoice/receipt to confirm exactly what the dealership did for you.

TIA!!

Not that I'm aware of. We just had a 6MT come in last week experiencing the same issue.

That would be awesome if you can let us know how the update effects it!

I could not find the paper work so I called and they said that all it was was the most recent update sent out by BMW. They said it was not a specific update for any one thing just a periodical update sent out by BMW.

I would like to add other issues I have incountered with this steering wheel. I have a 2011 M3 with DCT and I installed it by connecting to the CAS Unit for power. I like many others do not have a power issue, but a communication issue in that I get intermittent shift lights. I have also noticed at the same time have no shift lights, the information for "Efficient Dynamics" is not being displayed as well. What remains consistant is that no matter what mode I'm in..."Efficent Dynamics" or "Sport Mode" I still get accurate coolant and oil temps.

Another issue I noticed is that when I do have shift lights they become extremely inaccurate at higher RPMs. Example....right now I have my shift thresh hold set at 3500rpm. When in manual mode this is a good shift point for driving around town. Other words when my instrument cluster tach reads 3500rpm my steering wheel lights will progress up to and flash on the money as scheduled. However when I set the steering wheel shift light thresh hold to 8300rpm a HUGE ERROR accurs. Example....I have to set my steering wheel thresh hold at 7500rpm in order for it to match the shift lights on the instrument cluster. Thats almost a 1000rpm difference! (and yes I have reset and reaccomplished the initial set up 4 times according to the RPM correction factor).

Just wanted to add my findings on this. Please chime in if you have these same issues that I have found.

I took mine to the dealer and they reinstalled as per the book. I have shift lights now, though I have to reset the shift point every time I restart the car. At least the lights work now....most if the time. Sometimes on longer drives they will stop, and the I scroll through ED mode and back to sport and they come back on. My old version was fantastic at always working, though the shift point was not always accurate.

Do you have to reset the shift point from 3600 every time you restart?

How are you hooked up? Directly from the instructions?

I think that power hookup does not serve the wheel correctly. I always have lights now, but no memory of rpm settings.

Its powered up by way of tapping off the CAS control unit as per the instructions. Its like it looses communication with the car....I have shift lights sometimes and sometimes I dont....very random anomaly. Everything else works fine.

Pulling performance steering wheel out tomorrow and putting the stock steering wheel back in. Like BMW says....not to be used with M3 DCT and I really don't want to use a short cut to make it work as some on this thread have done.

Anyway....now I have a steering wheel for sale. $900

Set up at the dealer with DCT, mine works consistently. The tons just reset to 3600 every time I restart. I will bring it in for this now that the warranty will cover. Might be a way to get the car updated to the latest software.

What did you mean by "tons"?

Let me know what the dealer says!

Since the issue with the DCTs seem to be mostly related to the shift lights, I wonder if there is some issue in regards to the cluster in those cars and some sort of redundancy with the shift lights?

Okay so wheel is acting up....Start car in the morning, everything working. 20 Min drive to work. shut car off for 10~15 min. Restart car normal start up but no RPM reading?!? If i do the same procedure but let it sit all day at work the wheel operates perfectly. Any ideas on what can cause this.

What really gets me is at the track my Shift light have yet to work for a session. work the morning of but then shutting the car on/off multiple times during the day no luck with getting them reactivated.

Hmm after reading this i'm getting "worried". So basically, if i'm reading all these issue threads correctly, the people who have DCT m3s are usually the ones having these problems? (some 6mts are as well, but not as much?)

I have one on order, and as far as i can see/read, not to power it to the obd II port but via the fuse method or the jbe?

I would install as per the instructions from BMW. I you want your settings to hold, but no shift light consistency, then tap into the constant power. Since I had it changed at the dealer as per the BMW instructions, my lights have always worked. What is interesting is they have replaced my wheel 3 times to try to get the settings for RPMs to hold, and the first wheel defaulted to 3600. The newer ones 4000 RPMs, so not sure what went on there.

Thanks for the info! So basically install per BMW instructions, have everything work but not retain settings.

Has anybody have any luck with it working 100% on a M3?

Also per pdf instructions:

Basic settings
To ensure correct functioning, two basic settings must be performed once installation is complete. To access the Basic settings menu, hold down the left button L while switching on the ignition and press the right button R on the Performance steering wheel simultaneously for at least two seconds. A menu then appears for a few seconds and displays the software version. The display then automatically skips to the first menu item.
- Use the R or L buttons to toggle between diesel and petrol cars (the box around the symbol means selected).
- Press the R button for a long press to switch to the "Speed correction factor" setting. With the engine running, you can compare the speed between the display on the steering wheel and the display on the dashboard. Keep the engine at a constant, easy-to-read speed (e.g. 3,000 rpm) and now press the L button to reduce or the R button to increase the correction factor until both values are identical.
Switch the ignition off. The settings are automatically saved.

Not to say that everybody hasn't done this, but would that be one thing some of you guys aren't doing, since this is a rpm issue?
