335d exhaust - configurator error?

No. That is the unfortunate answer.

Some of you may have seen my thread in the General F30 section here and as some of you also noticed, the 335d as shown on BMW UK's configurator has the dual pipes like the 330d/328i and not the split twin pipes like the E90 335d/335i and current 335i.

So, hoping this was an error, as I believe the range topper should be distinguished like the 335i and 535d is, I asked BMW UK if it was an error. And, though the dual exhausts like I have a great, unfortunately, the 335d also has this set up. I think it should boast a bit more - it does do 0-62mph in 4.8s!!

Their main reason was to adhere to the latest EU Diesel regulations - EU6 I assume.
Anyway, still a fabulous fabulous car and I certainly wouldn't let something like that put me off buying one. But it just would be that bit nicer if it had the twin "35" pipes.

What do you reckon?

Not fussed... The look of the exhausts is not the reason for buying a 335...

0-60 in 4.8 secs though is!!!

I can't wait for reviews of the 335d.
Will it be an epic car - or an epic failure handling wise? (with ref to other threads on the xdrive and standard suspension on M Sport etc).
It'll be a bit of pudding for sure with all that weight.

Also, I can't see why the configuration of the exhaust should affect emissions? Why does this not affect the 335i?

335i and petrol engines in general do not produce PM (Particulate Matter) or NOx (Nitrogen Oxide) emissions that need to be controlled under the new EU legislation EU6 - to be introduced in 2014.

1705kg. Could be much worse than that...
My 328i is 1505kg (I thought it was 1600kg!) so actually, you may just have a point! My god my car is light for what it is - nice.

Think it will definitely need Adaptive M to lower the extra xDrive ride height. That's the main thing that puts me off xDrive - the sodding needless ride height.

Adaptive Suspension won't lower it. BMW won't lower it (though you'll find modders in the States that have already changed the springs for aftermarket ones). One would assume there is a reason with the front drivetrain as to why BMW did it or perhaps it's purely because they assume markets will be solely covered in snow for the majority.

Whatever adaptive will only change the damping.

I thought Adaptive M lowered it 10mm?

It doesn't effect the emissions. It's probably been done to cut costs. Why make an exhaust and all that goes with it for one model....

But they make it for the 335i (only that one).

When I asked if it was to do with EU6 and if the F10/F11 LCI will keep it's twin exhausts, they responded with; "This isn’t to do with EU6 but rather with the EU Diesel regulations. The 535d LCI will retain the twin exhaust tailpipes as the current generation 5 Series received type approval in 2009. "

So that explains why the 335i has them!
