The authors of the article drove of all of the cars on the list. How many of the "experts" here have done that.

Regardless, I feel like it would be tough to argue against the #1 and #2 in the comparo, though their positions certainly can.
So it's not really the best handling car available? It's the best handling car out of a random bunch of sports cars Motortrend picked.

If given a choice between a Turbo, GT3, GT2, and Cayman S you'd pick the Cayman?

Given the chance I'd take the GT2, and sell it. Buying a Cayman S, ariel atom, and some offroading car.

997.1 GT3 won the best handling car in America 2 years ago beating out Porsche Cayman S, Corvette Z06 and all other cars. I am sure it will be back again next year to trounce all the competitors since the 997.2 is tons better than the 997.1.

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...id_engine.html

Arguably, from an excitement and driving thrills perspective, GT3 997.2 and RS GT3 are the best Porsche today. It is the true race car Porsche uses in Le Mans race car and the road car is only there to fulfill the requirements of Le Mans of a minimum of XXX production version for the public.

450 HP from 3.8 Liters
8800 rpm rev limit
6 speed manual
Best handling and suspension of all Porsches
Lightest of all at only 2960 pounds
The best and most sonorous exhaust note out of any Porsches.

No other Porsche today has all these exciting traits in one car.

Check out my post #176 in this thread. I still say the 911 platform is better handling than the Cayman, however wonderful the Cayman may be. From experience. I feel many people are talking without a true experience with both cars. It takes time to get to know a 911. Cayman's learning curve is quick - it's easier to drive. But a 911 handles better and is in turn quicker and more rewarding. My opinion, sure. "Best Driver's Car" in the MT article can be anything. They go at it in a scientific way, but then are very subjective...Anyway check this out:

You're right. Sorry for clogging the board.
I like the Cayman. My only complaints are that Porsche has kept it underpowered and I don't like how it looks compared to a 911.
To me, power is a component of handling and the Cayman needs more bhp.
There's also such a thing as too much power, like the GT2 (at least for a normal person). To me,the gt3 balances the cars structural design with the near perfect amount of power. The Cayman is a near perfect chassis in need of a slightly more robust engine.

The CS is pretty nifty car. Albeit I don't think anything would be as nimble and as exciting until I get my butt into a 430 scud or maybe a mclaren f1.

You guys should read what they said about the 135i. They hated it.

I agree. As a past 986 non-s/987 S current 911S owner, the Cayman's chassis is truly incredible. Penis measuring and the like on the M3 forum seems to be common. We all get that the M3 is a great all around car but when it comes to being a sports car, the m3 is no match to the kind of feel and experience a Cayman brings.

This whole Cayman vs 997 has kind of over-shadowed what this thread is about. There's no 997 at all in the MT 'Driver's car Group test' so lets forget about the other Porsche for now.

Of the three front runners, Audi R8, Cayman S and ZR1 which do you think will be victorious?

P.S.
The UK magazine Autoexpress did that take in this week's magazine, I haven't seen it myself but I did hear that the ZR1 didn't do to well overall, it was the quickest car on the track beating the GTR but it only finished 13th overall, two places behind the new Audi TT-RS. May be the new small Audi is a lot better of a driver's car than some here think.

I'll check later on to see what the final order was.

that sounds kinda bias no. a tt-rs over a zr1? i don't know about you guys, but i'm taking the zr1 over any of those car list in this mag even though i'm not a fan of the interior. assume i can afford one, lol

the zr1 sparks emotion and absolute power, but I need to get rid of the stock rims. the tt-rs, not sure what to think of it although you maybe right, it has the balance and handling. but no way it is a better handler than the zr1. we are talking about tt-rs vs enzo performance here.

this makes sense. that's why porsche wouldn't replace the gt3 platform with the cayman platform in alms, etc.
