Gives me hope for the future of BMW

ZPS+ZMT

3295 lbs, according to BMW USA's site.

Now, how much power will a tune coax out of that engine...?

http://jalopnik.com/the-six-letters-...-bmw-472513915

I'm just glad to see that BMW still offers simple, focused cars like this one. Just too bad the NA inline 6 is gone...

Thinking one of these (gently used) would be a pretty nice first car for my kid...

That's ~240 lb-ft with the tune, by the way.

Well, if it does, I'd be willing to go well into the "dollars" range to purchase your e9x...perhaps even as high as hundreds of dollars!

Exciting development and shows that some folks in BMW still care about the right things.

However, a small displacement peaky turbo engine is not going to compete directly with the V8 M3. Maybe for some numbers people it will, but the M3 will face the most competition from the next M3 me thinks.

I just installed down pipe, AA rear muffler delete, and AA tune on the 328 N20. Very impressive but no M3, sorry.

confused? not really.

all cars are a product of compromise between environmentalists , industrialists, the market and the government.

if a further compromise was made to keep a NA V8 M3 production number to a minimum to help keep the air a little cleaner, to keep a finite resource like oil from not dwindling further...whatever....i'm all for it. ( if that's the case, for sake of discussion.... i don't know the exact reason for BMW's move to discontinue the V8).

that doesn't mean i'm not going to get one of the last remaining V8s and enjoy them. as a matter of fact, mines not even a DD. so that's one less V8 out there that being used heavily. gives a little more room out there for those of you that do

that doesn't mean i agree with everything an environmentalist group proposes either.

what the poster did above was call out a movement ....not a criticize a specific proposal. that i'm not down with.

i love driving my M3....hell, i just love driving in general. but, if air pollution got so bad that one of the only solutions was to give up my V8....so things would be better for my family, friends and community....IF that were the case? i'd do it in a heartbeat.

until then i'll be cruising right along......

200hp for $35k? No thanks, that's evo and sti pricing. Or if I want a 200hp rwd sports car, there are a lot of other options out there for much cheaper.

Buy a used e46 zhp if you can find one. Concept is similar, but BMW gave you a better engine than in the std 330i. Great ones can also be found at less than 40% of what BMW is asking for this thing although because they ended production in 2005 you would have to worry about maintenance.

still too heavy for a measily 180hp / 200tq!

Now if the 335i had a "lightweight" option at 3,000 lbs., that would be something fun to toss around...

Same engine as the 328i, right (with a different tune)? So with a tune you should easily be WELL in excess of 240 hp or at 240 hp with a factory tune with factory reliability.

I'd say this is the best of the new crop of BMW... but I still don't want it, due to the turbos, and the new manual is nowhere near the manuals of yesteryear.

He's 6. Maybe I could get him a nice 5 year old '18 320i, but more likely a well-kept BRZ.

Manual, either way.
