Pics or vids are a little hard as you can't use your phone while it's running this app. If you try to switch to the camera app, the cars drops the app, and you can't see anything, and you need to reopen the app. As they said in the demo, the in car details are minimal. When it running on the nav screen you can see a small line drawing of your route, or an ///M logo, or a circle chart of your g-force. Your phone will just show that you are connected. Once you disconnect the phone or app you can go in and review the data and add a start/finish. I drown around the block, so that I ended up doing a circle, and when I identified the "finish" it counted the area in between as a lap. When it's running, and you have it drawing your route on the nav screen it only updates every couple of seconds, but when you look at it in replay it is sampling a lot quicker. I'll have to play with it some more tomorrow. Overall, it's as described back in June. Now the question is were are the pro laps as a starting point for comparisons I want Billy's Laguna lap time in the 335

Pic from my commute home. Pic of reviewing data after disconnecting phone. You can see on the line behind the car where it's green from accelerating away from the light, as well as my spastic throttle application.

I believe once you get to a certain point on the map, its considered a lap so no need to set.

On my '07 M3 with CIC retrofit, I can see the following on the idrive screen when the M laptimer is activated:
  • Go (record)
  • /// view
  • G-Force view
  • Track view
  • session

That's more than the two listed on the BMW demo video. I get the same above listing when I connect to my 2011 X3. Interesting.

I would like to see a reverse-engineer hack integrated with Siri:

Me: "Siri, at the upcoming forty-degree, left, banked turn, apply 80% throttle for the duration of the entire turn, except add another 10% throttle when lateral G force reached .8, and, oh, and Siri, disable brake pedal."

They already got $250 from everyone who can use this as we had to buy the BMW Apps option on the car to get this to work.

I read through the privacy doc last night, and it says that the geo position and telemetry data isn't sent back to BMW after using the app, but anonymous "analytics" are. It sounds like the an analytics data are just about the functioning of the app (what version, date stamp, car type, head unit) are send, but if there was an accident I beat they could see more.

I tested this out on the wife's x5. I drove the route which she takes every day to work. Then I did the ///m app when she drove just to see the difference on how she drives compared to me. Kinda funny to see the compare mode on how much differently we drive.

I see that you need the 6nr option. I need to see who I can get to install this. The dealer said only for cars build a few months after mine. I am sure I read some where on the forums that coders have added this option.

do you get album art covers on your Idrive?

if so yup, talk to bimmer-tech.com patriks and his gang will be able to add this for you. I suspect it's just a coding and FSC code. (which he seems to be the only coder who can retro one of these properly). if you don't get album art then you'll need combox retro also.

Neil.

Just used this at Barber today. Worked flawlessly. For once, there's a useful BMW smartphone app. I know Harry's lap timer ultimately does more, but this is a great simple to use free app.
