you don't not need a cold air intake unless you like to replace the stock airbox with an over priced Carbon fiber one. if you want the engine breath better i would suggest you getting a quality filter. a lot companies sell them aFe or RPI. I have the RPI one and i got the filter and the scoops. some people may argue that RPI scoops are just for the looks, however i like the idea that it may channel the air better into the intake from the front grill.

Ever noticed that big scoop on the driver's side of the bumper? Stick your arm in it and tell me where it goes.

I would get a drop in filter and call it a day, or the AFE intake.
M3's intake system is brilliantly designed. If you look closely through the hood vent at the correct angle, you can actually see the ground in front of the lower bumper intake duct, through the hood. |

Get a drop in. The protection is nearly as good. K&N is cheaper than all of the other over priced filters.

I have the GruppeM. It's beautiful, and the sound is fantastic. Much better than stock, but I am not sure if that is just the filter or the intake design. Given the price, would I do it again? Maybe not, but I live to pop the good and see it.
