Solid information on the lightweight E90 M3 sedan revealed at the recent special M event at Garching has been difficult to come by, but if Auto Motor Und Sport is to believed, this lightweight E90 M3 will also receive the "GTS" moniker, like the E92 M3 GTS coupe.

AMS claims the power output will be 440hp, 10 less than the 450hp GTS coupe. This would be consistent with BMW's acknowledgement that the GTS sedan would have more power than the standard M3, but less than the GTS coupe. AMS also says that the M3 GTS sedan will utilize the 7-speed DCT transmission and feature a lightened interior with lightweight components in the center console and door panels, recaro seats, M3 steering wheel, and 6-point safety belts - similar to the GTS coupe interior.

The GTS sedan also features 19" wheels wrapped in 255/35 front tires and 285/30 rear tires with larger rotors (than standard M3), a modified exhaust system, and sport suspension.

No speculated weight figures yet, but BMW previously stated that its weight will come in between the standard M3 and the M3 GTS coupe.

Finally, AMS states that the M3 GTS sedan will make its auto show debut at the 2011 Frankfurt IAA autoshow in September. However, it will make its world public debut at the M Festival at the Nurburgring in June.

UPDATE: Here's semi-official confirmation about the name badge for the Lightweight E90 M3. Bimmertoday noticed that BMW UK apparently made a small-ish mistake and gave away the final name by putting "M3 GTS Saloon" in the picture description of one shot.

We've checked the UK press site, and the photo including description is still up at their site. See the screenshot to the left.

You think they'll sell this one in the US?

Cheers.

Very strange, this whole "end of model cycle E90 M3".

Standard E90 M3 should end around the same time this car goes into production, August/Sept. I'm guessing they'll only make 100-200 and build them the exact way, maybe even all the same color a la E92 M3 GTS.

This should be interesting what comes out of this, but this will be at a hefty premium I'm guessing

I donīt think AMS is right with the GTS lable:

1. SCOTT quotes that there is coming an equal coupe model of the LWC next year as coupe production ends ... so another M3 E92 GTS next year???

2. This car ist totally different from what the GTS stands for ... GTS is 100% Trackcar - WeightReduction only/mostly by strip out trackuseless parts ... the LWC is quoted to be an combination between Daily Driver and Trackcar - WeightReduction by making parts lighter instead of removing them and removing only parts that are not really necessary for daily driving.

3. This car should present how the LightWeight development standards from BMW today are ... same as by the E46 CSL!

SO I guess there is much more possibility that they labeled this car as "CSL" an really less reasons to lable it as "GTS" --> CSL = Concept - Sport - Lightweight !!!

Agree. The GTS was lighter because they gutted an M3 and made it into a track car. This LTW E90 is supposed to focus on functional equivalance to the current M3 sedan, but built from lighter weight material.

no chance this comes to the US, and it will be priced well above $100k.

M3 for $100k+? I'll save my money for a GT3.

However, $80k for a more performance oriented M3 with upgraded brakes, more power and lighter may not be so bad.

The thing is, all of the m3 competitors already have these things (except less weight) for less money. If BMW wants to remain competitive, these options should mostly be standard.

I think you nailed it. E90 production will be ending right as this model goes into production. Its definitely a swan song. I bet you're also right about them all being made in the same specification.
