V6 TT M3 Vs V8 M3?.. Which is better?

I'm not a car expert.. yet, so excuse this question please.

Gas Mileage put aside...

Which of these would be the better choice? Why?

(Because of the rumor of the new M3 being a V6 TT)

my experience with the tt 6 in the 335 was a horrible one . the only reason i stayed with BMW and gave them another chance was because the M3 was a v8 and NOT A TWIN TURBO. if it were i would have been gone. until BMW proves that there are no more problems with that engine or car with that engine i will NEVER BUY IT. and i think its more than a fuel pump problem. since they changed mine and i still had engine problems over the next 6 weeks that could not be fixed. probably never was the fuel pump. and proof means no problems with any of the tt series cars

Can't you wait until the darn car comes out??? You know NOTHING about the new car to even make an educated guess what I'll be. Just saying.

The current 6tt which is an I6 and the rumored V6tt are two very different engines. The tt V6 that might go into future M cars will no doubt be beast!

The V6 TT M3 doesn't even exist, so how can you compare it to anything?

In general what would the differences between a V8 and a V6 TT be?

Stuff like Noise and HP..

Wouldn't be able to tell?

The V6 TT would have a V6 engine and twin turbos.

The V8 would have a V8 engine.

Seriously, WTF are you asking? Nobody knows anything about what may or may not happen with the next gen M3, probably the only people who know are in Munich and they're not talking.

Horrible answer and a waste of a post. Trying to be tough or something? Don't please.

This has been discussed before and in some length.

I personally believe the logical decision would be for BMW to chose a vee design instead of an inline but then that decision might not go down so well with enthusiasts. The debate on whether twin turbo or possibly supercharging it best could be a very heated one, again I may go against the majority here because I reckon a supercharger setup has a much better chance at maintaining decent throttle response and N/A powerband charactistic.

I would personally prefer the future M3 because being force inducted should mean a stronger low to mid range that will make more enjoyable in day to day driving plus give it better mpg.

I loved my 335i. Never once had any trouble with it, so im sad to hear about the above problems. With the success that other companies have had with TT cars (ie Porsche, Audi...) engineering a marvel of an engine is right up BMWs alley. With that said however, I will take the V8 anyday

Well said. Having driven all the x35 variants and M3 sedan, if I cannot get a 2010 - 2011 V8 M3 in the next few years , I will be saying goodbye to BMW forever and never be back. It is abundantly clear, BMW turbo cars are no bulletproof Toyota turbo engines like 2JZ-GTE or 3S-GTE by any stretch whatsoever. Neither in terms of strong internals nor from a reliability standpoint.

In German cars, it will be a Porsche Carrera 911 (GT3 or a loaded 2S) and for a daily driver, I would even drive a Toyota Prius to please the tree huggers. I don't care.

I want those extreme moments of making the engine scream and listening to the sonorous sounds even if it is for 2 days in a week.

Well from a performance perspective, the next M3 no doubt will be quicker. Certainly in the 0-60 and 0-1320ft aspects if it has forced induction, the differences in 0-100mph and 0-1000m may be lesser...

The signals we've got are that the next M3 will have more torque but similar horsepower (perhaps even slightly less - really depends on what the competition does, watch the RS5 space ) and may be slightly lighter.

I don't might forced induction, the key thing is that the car does not put on any weight whatsoever. Bear in mind the power band, although peakier won't be as wide as the current M3, so the driving experience will be more daily driver focused but less enthusiast focused. On the track it will be interesting - I think an M3 with lots of torque will be a little bit trickier on the track to control assuming the RWD drivetrain is maintained (heaven forbid an xDrive M3 ).

Simply put, assuming the next M3 has a 6 cylinder twin turbo power plant, the broader mass appeal for the car should be increased, at the expense of upsetting the enthusiast that traditionally has held the M3 in high esteem.

Its a simple answer.....EMISSIONS.....plain and simple.....which kinda stupid since the BSF (brake specific fuel consumption) of a turbo engine is ALWAYS higher than a NA engine of the same power.....for example the high rpm M3 engine probably is around .45-.5 BSF which means it needs .45-.5 lb of fuel per HP created or around 207lbs for 414HP per hour.....a turbo is around .6-7 so it could use as much as 290lbs of fuel for the same 414hp.....

Would forced induction in anyway reduce the life of the engine? Or would it have no effect?
