And IMO the GT3 is easily the best looking.

Did anyone else notice that the R8 uses plastic pedals?

Is the 991 GT3 near the same price as an R8 V8 in Dubai? Or did you decide to increase your budget?

seems like the consensus is with the new GT3.

Even though i do not think it looks better than an R8 i know for sure it will be faster/better fun to drive! espcially at the track, which i plan to do alot more of.

yes the priceon the GT3 is higher than the R8 V8, you could get V10... much higher so ive increased my budget ofcourse

it kind f gets you thinking that you could have the V10 R8 facelift for what the new GT3 will be priced at.

So im here again as Ive gotten the Itch to switch out from the R8 to a .....991 GT3.

Now I know the information on this car is still scarce, but my porsche dealer here has told me around 450 to 460 HP, PDK, 0 to 100km in around 3.9 seconds if not less.

They are already taking down deposits for it and he advises to put mine down if i want to get a slot of the first batch of cars that will be coming to Dubai.

He is predicting they will be available in dubai around this time next year( 6 months to build and ship) and i will be able to place my order in around 6 months.

what do you guys think? would you guys jump ship from the R8 to the 991 GT3? would you rather get the V10 facelift or should i wait and se what the new M4 will look like/performance numbers be?

gonna link some early photos of what this bad boy might look like.
Do it. Put the deposit down for the GT3. If I were single, and didn't have 3 kids, that's the car I'd want to drive. Forget the v10 R8, the GT3 will be better. Do it, do it, do it.

If we're talking that much money already, why not a used F430, possibly even a Scuderia?

Saw/heard a white one at the Austin GP, pure heaven...

The new GT3 is coming with an automatic?

+1 on used F430 Scuderia

It will be available in PDK from what I am hearing.

Why would you buy a Scuderia over a GT3...Id take a 997.2 GT3 over a Scud let alone a new 991 GT3 which we all know is going to be epic.

Well, I don't care about performance figures. In my mind, what matters is sensation, sound, handling.. those kind of things where you can't define them with numbers. That's why I'd never own a GTR. Not my type of car, at all.

I'd love to own both, a GT3/RS and a F430/F458. Because I think they are both magnificent cars. But if I have to choose one, I'd say Ferrari just because of the engine. You know what they say, when you buy a Ferrari, you're buying an engine with a car wrapped around it.

And you would be in the minority as most people are not blinded by the Stuttgart badge like you. I, and would have to think the overwhelming majority of non fanbois, would take a Sud one million times over ANY Porsche 911 variant.

...of course any Porsche is epic to you

Off the board, but in full agreement.

If I won the lottery tomorrow, the Scud would be in my garage...even ahead of the 458. It evokes feelings that I didn't know existed after driving one. Loud, brutal and perfect.

Easy choice. As far as track performance, the 997 GT3 is a league above the R8. 991 should be nuts. And if it looks like this.. time to move on.

I appreciate the feedback guys.

Two days ago I put myself on the 991 Porsche GT3 list with the Dubai Porsche center. The salesman and GM( I spoke with both) thought it would be coming in around september/ October next year with orders being taken around 5 months before that. So once orders can be placed i will be getting an email and a call to come put in my order.

in the meantime that gives me around 1 year of track time with my R8. as much as I hate track days due to the vast Aray of cars on the track i have no choice as the audi/R8 club here doesn't even exist.

first event is this week in the Dubai Autodrome.

Tires inspection - check
Brake fluid changed - check
Brake pad/disks inspected - check
stand21 racing gloves/shoes- check
Bell helmet - check

wish my luck guys. will be the first time out with the R8 on the track and here's to hoping all goes well.

will be back with pics and videos

Well as i posted above took her our for the first time to the dubai Autodrome this weekend past and she was fantastic!

I have to admit she a was much more competent than I was. This was the first time i was running the full Gp circuit( usually they open up the smaller circuits). So i know I made a ton of mistakes

The good:

Absolutely no brake fade, even after 3 hours( granted every 4 to 5 laps i would take her in to cool down and go over my lines with a friend who is much more experienced than I, he's porsche club instructor)

oil temperature got to around 120 after around 5 laps which was perfect as i always go in after that many laps for a 15 minute rest session, which gave it enough time to cool down

Excellent balance and the V8 was fantastic

Tires were great

The bad:

Initially there was a ton of understeer but after the first couple of laps we played around with the tire pressure and got it to a good point that i was comfortable with. still not the best and the next track session ill have to play around with it a bit more but good enough. Any suggestion on PSi for tracking from you guys would be great.

Due to it being the GP circuit meant that we would be running with Caterams/race cars/radicals/cupcars/xbows/etc... those things are just stupid fast and road cars couldnt keep up. this also meant that we had to get out of the way immediately when they were up my ass which was annoying as i constantly found myself looking in the rearview mirror.

The rest of the field consisted of 2 M3's(they did around 4 laps and called it a day. My friend told me that they seemed to have over heated.... but I did not see that for myslef.), ferrari 599, M6 ( all these four did around 4 laps and called it a day:P) GT40, Carrera S 997.1 Cab,Carrera S 991, CaymanS PDK, around 6 GT3/GT3RS( fastest cars out there by a mile). There were some other cars but they were barely out on the track.

Below are a couple of pics with some videos.

I in no way claim to be a pro, in fact as i stated at the start of this thread the R8 was the capable one and I felt i was letting it down. But with time I'm sure I will make her Proud.

All in all i was very pleased and this has definitely given me food for thought on that 991 GT3 spot I have on the list.

I'm not a fan of the R8, per se, but if you can get an R8 for 7K more than the M3, that is an absolutely no-thought-required decision. R8 hands down.

The 991 platform will surely put out the best lap numbers over the 997.2 variants, but the increased wheelbase and electric steering just doesn't give you the 911 trademark feel. The difference won't be as extreme as the e9x m3 and the upcoming version, but purists will almost always want the older model. I'd take the 3.8 and 4.0 RS over the 991.1 GT3 without hesitation. But if I was running a race team, I'd want to use the new 991 platform.

i just finalized my purchase of a 2009 r8 v8 today. its enroute from Florida and should be here by Feb 12th. after driving it i'll put some thoughts together versus my old M3. I've owned an M3 stock and supercharged. since the r8 came out its been my dream car - sometimes there is more to a car than just what numbers it puts down. despite how awesome of a performance car the gt3 is, and its good looking too, i would take an r8 any day - its rare and looks sooo exotic. im lucky if I see one once every 3-4 months in the South Bay.

Congrats Vinny! Color and details on the R8? 6MT? Pics?

I'm putting that Akra x-pipe to good use starting this Sunday.

V8 Stasis exhaust sounds ridiculously good in person, by the way. I'm sure you're going to keep it stock though.
