How long at VPC?

Hello all, are any of you experiencing a delay at the VPC?, my car arrived there on 5/21 and it will not be released to the shipper to bring it to the dealer to at least 6/8/05. This does seem extreme and I am really concerned about serious damage to the car during shipping and or offload process. Please tell me how long your BMW was at the VPC. My sales person says the bumper is being replaced because of a scratch, and that is why it has taken at least 18 days for it to be released.I have relayed my concern, and just might go ahead and reorder and wait another 3 months for another.

It seems like anything more than 5 business days at VPC usually means some kind of damage occurred to the car during shipping and its being repaired. Then again, this is one of the main functions of VPC.

Whether you choose to cancel and reorder, and whether that will make your dealer upset, is all up to you and in the air. But just know that this is not uncommon.

I'd wait and see the car when it gets out of the VPC. They're essentially like a remote factory and are probably the best place anywhere to make any kind of repair to the car. Apart from that, I strongly doubt that there would be any record of any repairs on the VIN number as far as any resale issue may be concerned.

Yep, this does seem long. My car arrived at the port on 5/26 and was out of the VPC 5/31. Now, it had to wait outside the VPC for three days before it was loaded on a truck, but it still wasn't bad.

They process over 400 cars at the VPCs everyday, so sometimes even if your car makes it through, it has to wait to be loaded onto a truck, which can take up to a week.

In your case, since they are fixing your car, it will take longer. It really sucks, but the VPC can fix things better than anyone else (other than the factory).

I see the ship with my car is due in New York on the June 12th and then arrives in Baltimore 2 days later. I am in the Washington DC area so could I assume that there is a VPC in Baltimore or is it more likely that my car be delivered to the VPC in New York?

Just a side note, but how many VPCs are there in the US?

I think there are two or three. There is only one on the west coast which is near the port of Port Hueneme near San Diego.

I think there should be one near the factory in Spartanburg and possibly one in NJ as well based on what I've read.

East coasters can chime in with more concrete info on the ones over there.

My advice is to stay in touch with your dealership. The 800 number indicated this morning that my car was at the VPC yet I received a call this morning from the dealership advising that my car is there. I'm on my way in 1/2 hour to go take delivery of my car!! Finally the long wait is over!!!!!!

There are 3 VPCs:

- Port Huemene, CA (Ventura County) serves Western US
- Charleston, SC - serves SE
- Newark, NJ (aka NY) serves NE and Midwest

That's Port Hueneme on the west coast.
