Dinan Stage 1 thoughts

Hey,

I'm waiting for Winter to pass but stopped to talk about coil over kits with a local shop. I mentioned the K&W sleeve over kit vs complete coil over system but being a Dinan rep he recommended the Dinan stage 1. I told him it was strictly cosmetic not going to track it. In a nutshell he said stay away from coil overs you'll hate them.

Any thoughts on the Dinan stage 1 other than too expensive?

Also been thinking about some rims, but the kind I want only come in 20's. Are 20's to big?

this is for an 08 E90

The guy knows his stuff so i'm kinda torn.

These two statements are contradictory

He says you will hate them cause he can't sell them to you

I have Dinan Stage 1, but I got it for a steal.

Otherwise, i would have gotten a KW Sleeve or GC kit.
Or spent the $$$ for coils

since you only want cosmetic, don't get the Dinan.
the drop is barely noticeable.
I like my Dinan...for the price I paid for it. I wouldn't pay any more.
I also got the Dinan Camber plates, which are more than I wanted to spent but half the cost of the alternative (GC)

I figured that. He shot it down pretty quickly then pointed to the Dinan booklets.

Maybe i'll just get the sleeve over kit and say here put this on.

+1

The Dinan stuff makes the car perform much better but doesnt really help in the way of looks. The drop is minimal as its function over form. It sounds like the KW sleeve kit would be your best bet because it will allow you to get the exact ride height or look you want. If you just do springs it might be too high or too low. Save the coilovers or Dinan stuff for the track

The Dinan set up is a street set up, not well suited for track. I personally found the 1/2 drop noticeable and think its a perfect drop, I dont like the slammed look.
Nice ride on the street.

Stage 1 2 or 3 all have the same springs

Just in case you guys don't know

difference is with stage 2, you get the sway bar, with stage 3 you get the camber plates.

spring/ride height is the same on all

the dinan set up is better than stock, but not that much better; both on street and on track

No it is a PS.
I have run Moton SS, and KW CS on my car, they run much lower ride heights and great track performance, but a little harsh on street compared to Dinan, if the OP cares. The sleeve kits will also run stiffer then the Dinan set up IMO.

Dinan works well for me, but would like a bit more performance (coilovers in the fuutures ) but they are quite comfortable on the street.

stage 3 is actually only a 1/4 lower. might be for just front or back only but regardless all three stages arent the same for height

Stage 3 is higher in front due to the camber plates.

This

I forgot to mention this

It's 1/4pm higher with camber plates

Which means you only have a 1/4 in drop total

Stupid question, but if you go with C/Os, would you need a camber (maybe toe) kit as well? I had to get this on my last ride, but I was only on springs.

I'd suggest the KW Sleeve Over Kit. It has shorter bump stops to increase travel and it is engineered to work with the stock EDC shocks. You can set the ride height as you like - even match the Dinan's setting if you want. And it costs less!

I only see advantages over the Dinan besides maybe that the Dinan has a softer ride.

I've got the Dinan Stage 1. It's a very noticeable drop to me, even more so than ZCP...at least on my car. I like the feel better than stock, it's firmer but rides so nice and comfy!

That looks pretty good man, thanks for the pics

Can you go into more detail on the ride quality / handling?

No real benefit to the KW sleeves unless you like to pay more just to adjust the suspension. They don't lower the car any more than a good set of springs.

They are less expensive than Dinan springs which cost $1200. The KW is a bargain in comparison. I'm not comparing it to others.

The advantage of height adjustability is not just to go low, it is the ability to set it as you like and also corner weighting to set up for track use.

Yeah. I think I was quoted about $950 for the KW.

How much is the Dinan stage 2 with the sway bar? anyone know off hand?
