I'll have to take a look when I get home, it seems weird that they would recommend against a touchless wash.

Our dealer offers free car washes if you bought the car there. We have this VIP sticker on the windshield corner. Otherwise it's not free if you are going to get car washes only. It's like $10 for the basic wash.
My dealer is only 10min away so we always go there for free car washes. It's not very clean but it's free so we aren't complaining. In regards to swirl marks, I used to hand-wash my Cayman S but there were still swirl marks, but just cleaner (and then dirty again in few days anyways). Of course everyone is different about how he treats his own vehicle, so what's acceptable to me might not be acceptable to others.

lol thanks for all your input. my dealer doesn't use the brush method that would leave swirl marks but they do use the bucket of water and soap method. i usually do wash my car myself and love too, but i live in new york and need a reliable car wash during the winter. any suggestions ?

Dealer "Detail" or car wash post service a big no no!
To the OP, request that the SA do a walk around of your vehicle to inspect that there is no curb rash on the wheels and that any paint defects are noted. State, specifically, that you do not want the car washed or vacuumed by their staff, and request that such be noted on your service ticket. After your service perform an inspection of your wheels and paint to verify that the vehicle has not been damaged prior to leaving the premises. Should you see damage, get the SA verify such, and do not leave the premises until a remedy has been provided to you in writing.
PS: A good paint correction can cost anywhere north of $400 and a curbed wheel will cost you a minimum of $150+ if it is indeed repairable - that said, it's your money! |

I put 8x11 signs saying "PLEASE DO NOT WASH" in the windshield, front passenger seat and rear window. Also make sure the SA puts the same thing on the service order in big letters.
