No f'in way, at least not for everyone. The tip of my foot was on the floor before I shifted. I've paid very close attention to it.

First I thought I was doing it too quickly. It would need a full second to allow the shift without the grind. I had done it 3 launches in a row, while being careful on the last two to make sure the clutch is nicely in and shifting quick & smooth. The RPM would drop to about 5000 by the time I would be in gear.

After the new clutch, I'm not having that issue. The gearbox felt notchy getting out of gears even at operating temp (like it is to get out of first when it's super cold out), that's what indicated it was a clutch issue.

This was about 5k miles ago already.

I did this too. I made sure the clutch was to the floor and it still did this. Feels like it's in the tranny somewhere.

I never had a grind... However, it does feel that I cannot swift as quick as I would like. The 1-2 swift takes me at least 0.5s longer than needed, resulting in the fact I need to consider the 0-100kms of all cars under 5.5s...

This happened to me once, after that I never tried to shift so fast from 1st to 2nd. So it never happened again. But I do wonder if there is any defect or do we just have to shift slower from 1st to 2nd on purpose to avoid grind.

do you remember the first time you drove a standard transmission and the car would make a horrible noise if you did not shift into the next gear properly? That is the grinding sound we are talking about- you know, If you cant find it, grind it....

As far as an update on my car- IT IS FIXED 100%. I have 1500 miles on the new trans/clutch/flywheel/spring and I have put the car through its paces and the car has shifted flawlessly.... Not 1 grind since!

I could not be happier.... I can shift as fast as I want now.......

Im really curious as to the new clutch pedal spring- The clutch pedal feel is completely different than the original spring assembly....

Id like to know if the '09 models come with the newest updated spring hence the reason why only early 08 model cars are complaining about the grinding.........

I tried it at a 5000 rpm role. Then i floored it to 8200rpms. Shifted to second it grinded.....It did it 4 X'ssss I was so pissed. I have 15k miles on it. I didn't have problems like that before. I tried it before in the 15k miles, but I got the 1,2, shift.. In the 15k miles. I tried it 10 x's In the beginning I was 7 out of 10. Now the last couple of day's I had to get it wright. The last couple of day 4 x's wrong. What the hell. If i slow down and shift. Then i get it. I'm afraid it's wear.. I think the weak link to this car is the tranny.. If this is true what a disapointment.. Should of got the porsche C2.

Can you tell us the part number of the new spring? Is the spring the only thing needed to be replaced to fix this problem, or do all the staff you mentioned need to be repleced.

My car is 09 and I do think I have this problem. Also, how do I convince my dealer to do the work without trying to replicate the problem with the tech.

This 1-2 shift is starting to piss me off as well. I want to take it into the dealer, but then I have to put the CDV back in the car, the clutch spring and take the SSK out all so they can tell me they cant replicate the problem. How can we fix this?

I've had this issue in the the last three BMW's I've had, including 2 E92 M3's. It doesn't bother me much, but when I'm trying to shift fast from first to second, half the time this problem makes me look like a complete douche.

I tried it at a launch and it shifted every time.. 1st to 2nd fast.. The problem is in a roll of 4k to 8k is were the problem is. Not at a stop and go. It might be a safety lock not to downshift to 1st or 2nd..

This behavior is mechanically normal from 1st to 2nd (a few post below explained why the synchro does not work as smoothly as for higher gears)... doing it to your car is not normal!

This is what BMW Tech Guru Mike Miller would label a "knucklehead" thing to do, but would also recommend upgrading the gearbox oil to RedLine MTL.

This car is not a dragster so treat it adequately.

It's not normal, since mine doesn't do it. Some cars evidently have a real problem and most do not.

I had this exact problem on my 2006 Evo IX MR, and it got worst and worst...And that was one of the reasons why I sold it.

I just ordered a 2009 E90 M3 recently.......Does anyone think I'll run into the same problem? I heard this grinding issue may be happening in only the '08 M3's...?....

Looking good on potential signees so far, keep it coming guys. We need enough signatures to create a visual impact before we go any further with this.
So I've heard about 1 out of 20 '08 M3's have the grinding issue. That means I have a much lesser than 5% chance in having the grinding issue. I better keep my fingers crossed....

I really hope all of the grinding issue gets resolved. I know that it can be an absoulte nightmare when it happens. All the best!
