Range rover owner please give advice =)

hi folks, if any of you guys currently owning a range rover/range rover sport, NA or s/c, please drop a note and advice.

i want to see how's the long term reliability on the British beauty. ive been loving the rover for a long time, but in the past, ive heard so much overheating problems with the older one. does anyone have 06+ model and with 40k+ miles? do they have minor/major problems all the time?

im planning to get my wife another SUV and it's gonna be a CPO. so far we opt'd out X5, and down to Q7, Cayenne, range rover/range rover sport. probably Q7 will be out of the list cuz wife doesn't feel the MMI navi control in audi.

I have a supercharged and it is amazing. I've had the proper Range Rover which is more comfortable roomy but not as fast and agile as my Sport. I've had an X5 as well but the Sport picks up speed faster since it is supercharged but more comfortable with the air suspension. Gas is bad though at 14-15MPG premium, ipod, Harman Kardon stereo,satnav, heated seat steering all the gizmos you can imagine optional to other cars come standard to the Sport. I have mine for two years now never had a single problem.Test drive it you'll never look back.

As much as I love the Range Rover (had a '91 and went off-road once a month) you would be better off with the Cayenne S. The Jaguar engines in the Range Rovers are pretty terrible to be honest

yea i figured the gas mileage is not gonna be any good, our current SUV is suffering 17mpg 90% freeway, so a rover isn't any worse =)

that's what im aware of. i thought the new rover improved a bit than the older one?

Not really, the new ones are thoroughly modern in both performance and efficiency.

i did, there's not much honestly, except a few glitches on the supercharged motor. seems like they r pretty solid in the recently years.

range rover issues are so over rated. I know plenty of people who have them and they are perfect.

However i would rock a cayenne turbo

I have had three friends who bought Range Rovers, they all had a very bad very expensive experience.

Had a Cayenne S that was rock solid, I put over 80,000 miles on it, all it ever needed was tires.

I currently have an X5d, great mileage.

more specific? are they supercharged model? i want to hear both good and bad about the rovers. thanks!

i dont understand either. i guess its hit or miss. we've had a couple ('99 4.6, '03 HSE, now '08 supercharged) and haven't had any major issues. i've read a lot more problems with them after ford took ownership though (go figure). the BMW engines were better IMO.

the 2011 range rovers are very very nice though.i think land rover did it real well with this one. the exterior / interior is perfect to me.

the sports are ehhh.....


just dont get an escalade whatever you decide....

my dad had a '08 range rover supercharged and it started giving him a decent amount of small but annoying problems around 60-70k miles.. he took it all the way to 96k miles due to his long commutes and he got a '11 Range Rover HSE back in the summer and he already has 10k miles on it with no trouble at all.

I'm also thinking about one like the OP. Is service work at the dealer real pricey?

If you do get the supercharged proper Range Rover, just don't call it an "HSE Supercharged" like most do - there's no such thing. It sounds like people are saying "I have the naturally aspirated supercharged model." There's the Range Rover, Range Rover Supercharged, Range Rover Sport, and Range Rover Sport Supercharged (I'm kinda OCD and this bit really bugs me because people sound like idiots when they say it)

There is a reason why depreciation hits so hard on Range rovers and they are dirt cheap. All the damn problems, that no one wants to deal with. If you are buying new with warranty, it should be fine but never one one without warranty.

yea don't worry, we never put Escalade in our list at all, i kinda thought about mercedes ML, but meh.... my mom has one, wasn't a great car and also i'm not a MB fans at all. for some reason i really digging into the Range rover, same as my wife. Cayenne is nice too but i think a proper Range Rover is roomier, haven't sit in neither one since me and wife are not in a hurry.

we are trying to get a slightly used CPO, but Range rover's CPO warranty is kind of different than BMW, it only covers up to 5 yrs/62,000 miles from the in-service date. so 1 year/38k miles less than BMW. haven't check the CPO warranty on Cayenne. but figured they should be close to each other. and for maint-wise i think they run similar cost when it comes to service.
