As a new M3 owner, I love this car more than I did when I was just reading about it a couple years ago...BUT I do have a couple of complaints.

1.) On my 6MT model....the long, grrrrinding crunch feeling when shifting from from 1st to 2nd gear. (I hear there are some nice shift kits out there than can relieve this).

2.) ...and the fair amount of tiny paint chips on the hood that just seem to multiply with weeks, not miles (as one would expect!) I mean, i've barely driven the car and they just pop up all the time, and not only the hood. It might just be the age of the paint.

These are minor things after all, and pretty much the only issues I can think of currently.

Gas tank too small - Would it have killed BMW to put in a tank that holds a couple more gallons to go with the ever so thirsty S65. I mean with regular work commute I maybe get 200 miles out of a tank if I'm lucky.

Cigarette lighter shuts off with the car - Seriously dumbest and most annoying thing ever

Seat belt presenters - Why have them if they don't work half the time. First time with a BMW that one of the fancy gadgets is totally unreliable (other than most 7 series more than a few years old)

One touch windows with the doors open - I know this can be coded out, but why code it that way in the first place..

1. Corner lights not LED
2. Rubber pedals, should have came with the optional aluminum pedals
3. Side bolster quality, they should have done hybrid... leatherette or suede
4. Back window bottom seal
5. Paint so delicate
6. Can't park without turning off car
7. Gear disengages when you open door (looking into coding this)
8. Interior lights not LED
9. Exhaust too tame, need to get aftermarket...
10. Rear seats not heated

lol... longer than I originally thought

No damn oil dip stick. At GMCHEM83 you could have a bad throw out bearing or worst case you have a bent shift fork between 1 and 2.

I can only lock/unlock my car if I am literally 5 feet away from it because I have 5% tint all around.

+1 on gas tank size. I spend way too much time at gas stations. M button with some spirited driving and the gas needle starts dropping fast.

Nit picks:

1) Electronic dipstick - it told me to fill a quart, I did half. Still low. Reset it about 5 times trying to get it to read the new oil I added in, even pulled over and inspected for leaks on a long nighttime highway drive. Every oil change I do, it reads fine when I drive away after changing it for about 30 min, then says I need to add a quart. FML.

2) Seat belt extender is useless

3) When I drive my M3, I'm at the gas station EVERY day

4) Rod bearings always a nagging feeling at the back of my mind given all the fear and uncertainty on the forum, even despite the 106k miles and 7 track days put on the car. Let's just say I keep tabs on available used engines and a line of credit handy if that day happens :P

I voted for future F8X owner, probably this summer. I won't be selling this E92 though, I love the car.

If you have comfort access you should lock your car or your battery will go dead over time as the car is always in "ready mode". I learned this the hard way!

Also, there is an actual key inside the fob so if the battery is dead you can still access the car.

No oil dipstick...and the brakes. The dipstick is self explanatory, but the brakes should've been better and at least more visually pleasing to the eye for the type of car this is.

Would be nice if the sensors were built into the rear door handles as well.
The 5ers and 7ers have them, but the 3ers (even F30/F80) still don't.

It gets annoying having to reach for the keys or the front door handle to unlock the car first before being able to grab something from the back seat.
they cant put all the luxuries on a 3 series. then no one will buy a 5 or 7 series.

What if I want to step out of the car on a hill without turning off the engine??
Also why is there even a key insert when you can just press the button to start the engine without the key inserted? Sorry I haven't searched the forums yet, just figure I post here as its related. New owner as well (<1 month)
actually the slot is there in case the fob battery died. otherwise you wouldn't be able to drive the car. so when the battery dies you open the door with the mechanical key and insert the key fob to start the engine.

When I made this thread, I envisioned a bunch of whining and commiserating over minute details.

The "helpful" factor of these posts is such a pleasant surprise. The e9x platform isn't dead just yet!

1. Rear screen demister is next to useless. Same in my old e92 335.
2. The quarter-tank low fuel warning.
3. The look of the brake calipers.

There's more to a 5er and 7er than being able to unlock the rear doors by touching them.
Nobody is going to turn down a 5 or 7 simply because a 3 series can unlock its doors with sensors on the rear door handles.

Car should have come with Recaro seats, Brembo brakes, M Performance Exhaust, and sedans with the option of carbon roofs from the factory.

And cup holders should be easier to delete than replacing the entire dash.

This. I never got the warning driving on public roads (I don't commute in it, so), the first time I got the low fuel warning was on a track, going through a corner at 90+ mph.

Damn near hit the armco because I thought it was the engine failure warning for a second.

Do I really need a light to tell me when to shift?

Apparently not. I guess that makes you one step better than Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso, and Lewis Hamilton.
