Oil quantity with oil cooler change??
So I am still working through my engine swap and have a question...
I know that we add 8.8L of oil with a fluid and filter change, but what would you add when you also swap out the cooler? I don't want to over fill... but don't want to starve the motor either. If I only had a dipstick! Anyone ever do this before? I thought about trying to fill up the cooler and lines and then add the 8.8L? Also wish I knew when (what temp) the oil cooler started to have oil fed through it. Thanks!!! |

You are correct - ran it today and sure enough you could feel the heat in the lines right about when the temp on my scan tool hit 95. Also, if anyone else has to change the oil cooler with an oil change, it took an additional 2.75 quarts to bring the oil just below full on the display. Add it in stages and keep checking the level. |

Because the cooler looks to me like it probably holds a quart. The lines hold some more. The whole oil system is complex and I suspect that as part of your cooler change you released some oil from other parts of the system and that it is not necessarily the case that the cooler holds 2.75L of the 8.8L system.
