What car took care of YOU?

Heres a thread for people to post cars in their past that they had a great experience with, even if it was a boring one. This is to include Corollas, SUV's, mid-size cars... it doesn't even have to be performance oriented. What cars in your past took care of YOU, never gave you a problem, and if so, minimal or left a good taste in your mouth?

That would be my DD 2002 Honda Civic coupe, got it for like $5,500 (with 57K miles) many year ago. Still worth like $2500 and gets an average of 34 MPG at 75-85 MPH. Replaced bad tranny at 98K (famous Honda tranny issue) paid about $600 for everything. Soon will be at 200K miles and still runs strong.

2006 Jeep liberty CRD limited turbo diesel. I got it from my dad with 140k miles, and i slowly turned it into a daily driven off road rig. Tuned the motor to 260hp 300ftlbs of torque from a 2.8 4 banger turbo, lifted it about 3 inches, 31 inch all terrain tires, skid plates, rock rails, etc etc etc. It was an awesome car and it literally never left me stranded anywhere excluding when the battery died... That was my fault since it was a 6 year old battery that should have been replaced a long time prior. It's still running in the family and has over 180k miles on it now, stock turbo, stock tranny, stock motor, 2nd starter.

my current A3. 45k miles. ZERO issues. not even one......so much for german cars being 'unreliable'....this particular car is completely bulletproof!

but it still gets traded in/sold....in the name of enjoyment!

My Rsx-S was moderately problem free. Had to do some basic maintenance and a few problems here and there, alternator went bad, clutch, and that's about it. Overall a great DD and was still kicking strong when I get rid of it at 177,000 miles.

Civic Hatchback was a problem on wheels (4 trans, axle separated in the middle of Detroit, motor ended up throwing a rod through the block)

I didn't expect less! Out of interest, what are you trading it in for? I've been looking at the new A3 as a second car, so it would be nice to hear what you are going with.

My father's 1998 4Runner. Has over 340k on the clock and still runs great. Brake pads, yes PADS, have been changed one time at around 250k due to old age. They still had meat on them.

trading it for a 135is! I love the A3....was a really great car. It's very practical and safe, but i drive many miles a day (120) and needed something a little bit more fun to keep me entertained!

LOL sorry I misread your signature. I didn't see that you had the 135is on order. It's going to be quite a bump in power from the A3! I hope that it is economical for long distance sake.

I would have to say my old Subaru Impreza 2.5i. While I love my BMW, it's had its fair share of incidents, both the car's and not the car's fault. My old Subaru only had 1 issue related to the car, the brakes went bad, which after a short argument with Subaru, were covered under warranty. Other than that, it was great on gas, awesome in the winter, and got me everywhere I needed to go. The only reason why I decided to get rid of it was because I wanted something with a bit more power.

Now, car brand-wise, I would have to say BMW has taken care of me a lot better than Subaru ever did. Like I said, I had to go thru a huge argument to convince Subaru I wasn't abusing the car to get the brakes fixed. Which was true, I never drove that car hard, it was a 2.5i, I couldn't, lol. BMW, on the other hand, anytime my car had issues, whether it be electrical (which has happened a few times), recalls, accidents, upgrades, whatever; they have been there to help me out.

My 09 Jetta did...never had any problems with it. Unless, you count the rats that ate through the power steering cables...twice!

Before that my 08 Jetta held up pretty well when some retard who had been drinking rear-ended me at 40mph when I was sitting at a stoplight. Insurance ended up totaling the car, which I was happy about.

I recommend VW Jettas as the best car you can get (new) at the $20-22k price range. German engineering, safe, reliable, nice interiors...sure the driving experience doesn't compare to BMW, but you can only expect so much at $22k.

My best vehicles so far:

1996 Cobra Mustang (got at year old and 2k miles) which had about 60K on it when I sold it. Not one thing ever went wrong with it.
Also, my 2002 SVT Lightning. Got new and I had 70K on that when I sold it. Not one thing ever went wrong on it either.

Every BMW I have had.......Cant even remember all that has gone wrong.

My 2000 Ford Lightning. Modded it to the point of running a best 11.01 @ 123mph and was my daily driver. Never an issue never let me down. Even used it to haul lumber when needed. Wish I still had it.

'99 Corvette Hardtop. Put on boltons right when I got it. Beat the crap out of it, hooliganism, track days, drag strip, road trips, you name it. Mechanically, it just just kept ticking. Even at 13 years old and 110K, it made more on the dyno with the next owner than it did when I put it on 4 years earlier with the same mods.

I used to be a Ford guy but that car sold me on GM and Corvette. Hopefully I can buy a C7 or C6Z sometime in the near future.

My BMW is not nearly as reliable and I treat it much more nicely.

My 323i did me well for years. Loved the E46 chassis, just so fun and agile for its size. No problems except for wiper blade failing and scuffing the windshield (replaced by insurance) and the synchro might have been a little worn in 2nd from my stupid power shifting days.

To be honest all my American cars. The first was a 1995 Ford Thunderbird V8. Had it for 4.5 yrs, 60K miles. Zero issues. 2001 Ford Mustang Cobra. 5yrs, 30K miles, zero issues and A LOT of fun. 2002 Cadillac Escalade EXT, 3yrs, 78K miles, not one single issues. All I ever did besides regular oil changes was replace the foglight bulb once. I LOVED THAT TRUCK! I had a GREAT time with it. 2006 Corvette, 1yr, 7500 miles, Zero issues. 2007 Corvette Z06, 5 yrs, 14.6K, Zero issues and was stupid fast and most fun car I ever owned. Now I have a 2012 Ford SVT Raptor. Its been a little over one year and about 5600 miles, Zero issues and lots of fun.

I've also had a 2008 BMW 335i sport for 2 yrs and put 14K miles on it and it had some sunroof issues, but was a nice car. And, I also had a 2011 BMW M3 convertible for 18months and put 14K miles on it. Was a very nice car and was a lot of fun. My first convertible. When the top was down, and the DCT was on full blast, the exhaust sounded so damn good running it to redline. I will be looking for another, this time an E90, next year.

I bought a new 2000 VW Golf GL. Yes, the base model with manual wind up windows and all.
220,000 miles so far. Radiator lasted 10 years, exhaust lasted 11 years and I changed the timing belt once at 160K. Two sets of brake pads and fluids is the only other thing I changed. Still the original clutch with no slipping issues at all.

1985 Ford Mustang First car 6 cyl issues all the time tranny went at 125k
1984 Subaru GL Very reliable util 175k when engine went
1990 Toyota Camry Of course no issues replaced clutch around 150k car was rear eneded and totaled Only reason I got rid of it
2000 Toyota Celica GT-S numerous auto X events and 100's of passes in 1/4 mile. Sold it with 155k on it. Beat the hell out of the car never had an issue. Car was modded like crazy as well
2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege modded also with boost controller, intake etc Again numerous auto X events and 1/4 mile passes no real issues either sold with 115k on it
2006 e90 330i Never one issue
2008 X3 3.0si One issue with heater
2010 e90 328i Few issues Starter and fuel pump issues
2008 VW GTI No issues ex wife stil drives it with 75k and its been surprisingly trouble free

My old 2002 E46 M3 had one light bulb go out in 4.5 years of ownership.
