Dr Chuck's Ride

Hey Guys. I joined this forum fairly recently. I was lurking for the first little while because I didn't have any good pics of my ride yet. Up until the end of Feb 2011, I was driving an E46 M3 Convertible. I had that car for 3 years. It was the first car that I modified beyond suspension and wheels. The car had CSL style splitters and diffuser, AC Schnitzer rear deck spoiler and strut bar, Volk LE37T wheels (19 x 8.5 ET35 f, 19 x 10.5 ET22 r), Ground Control Street Coilovers, Brembo BBK (355mm f, 345mm r) amongst other mods. Here is the car in its penultimate form before I started stripping the mods before returning it off lease.

I got my new car from the US in October. I put it in storage once the snow hit the ground and then I put on some winter tires and brought it out when the E46 went back to BMW Canada. My new ride is an Interlagos Blue on Black 2009 E92 M3 with DCT, EDC and just about everything else except extended leather.

To start, on stock suspension with OEM 19s

On Stock Suspension and the Volks

On Ground Control Coilover Conversion Kit and the Volks

For those astute folks who noticed that I added the stud kit, I did that because I am running spacers. The stud kit is the 90mm kit from Turner Motorsport. The OEM 19s were on 15mm f and 12mm r. The Volks are running the 15mm spacers up front (ET35f) and no spacers in the rear (ET22 10.5in wide wheel).

I am off to Vegas tomorrow night where I will pick up some Carbon Fibre bits from Turner. Once I have those installed, I will post up some more pics. Thanks for looking.

Turner is in Massachussetts. Shipping to Canada is a lot more. Add in duties and brokerage fees and the savings from buying from US vendors dissappears quickly. I am attending a course in Las Vegas so I have parts shipped there (smaller stuff that I can carry back in my luggage) and I bring them back myself.

How to bring US BMW to Canada

Hey DrChuck, was it well worth it to bring a US M3 to Canada, and if so, do you mind sharing how you went about doing it? I was serious about it but ended up just getting one from Budd's for WAY more money. Thanks for your info man.

I used a vehicle broker. He did ALL the work. He found the car, I approved it. He bought at auction, did all the paperwork and shipped it to Toronto. He did the RIV, Canadian coversion (guages, DRL if applicable etc) and got it plated.

Could I have saved money if I did it myself? Probably not since the price he got the car for at Auction was less than I could have found for the same car on the retail side. So his fees were offset by the money saved buying the car at wholesale.

He called when it was ready, I showed up with a cheque and drove the car away. Was it worth it? Absolutely. If you want his number, PM me.

I did the same thing. I bought my car in the US with 800 miles on the odometer and when all was said and done, I save about 10 grand over buying in Canada. Also, considering that I only put about 8000km on the car a year, BMW's free oil changes don't get me very far. I just pay for them out of pocket.
