Wagens FTMFW i honestly dont see why BMW adding a few more models to their line up is so terrible. so what if they are trying to cover all bases and make cars that appeal to everyone. you have the option to pick the one that best suits you, no one is forcing you to buy any of the other models... |

Dude, there's a reason why the RS4 Avant wasn't sold here...no one would buy one.
I have to say the Audi wagons look much better than BMW wagons in the past. |

Not sure why everyone's getting so worked up here. I don't care what they CALL IT... so long as it looks good. And the pictures that Scott has attached look amazing. If the car comes out looking anything like that... then excellent.
Most importantly, for those people who wanted a 4 door next gen M3... here it is. Now that contingent finally has an option. 4 door lovers should be pretty happy.

Scott, are you saying that an M3 GT is a good possbility, then? What about an M5 GT as well?
Also, given those artist renderings, it seems to me that the 3 Series GT will end up looking a lot more like a 3 series sedan, but with a hatchback added (and a longer wheelbase, as you had mentioned before). This is a very good thing - much preferred over the rather upright and oddly polarizing looks of the current 5 Series GT. All of this though, is secondary to what we really want - a 3 series Gran Coupe, and of course an M version to got with it. How are the prospects on these? |

seriously guys, not all of us can get a coupe but still want a high performance car! I have 2 toddlers and for the next 15 years or so will be rocking a 4 door something even with a SUV as a second car. If BMW only made a coupe I would have to stick with Mercedes or go to Audi, so if they do discontinue the sedan I really hope the GT makes it to the US in M form. If it does look like the rendered photos I would buy one for sure! I don't want a wagon, I want a sedan but will take something in between.
And no getting an X3M over a M3 GT is not a good choice, car will not handle the same or be as fast since it will have a ton more weight, and I doubt the X3M will have the same power as the next M3, it will be more like what they are going to do with the new M5 and M6 (555 HP and around 600HP). My guess is the new M3 will be 450 HP and they will tune the X3M to around 400HP. Heck I might be sporting a X3M and M3 GT if my wife is cool with it |

Scott's pictures don't look anything like a wagon (or the ugly 5 GT), it looks like a sedan with an even more functional trunk and trunk lid. Looks like a winner to me.

But remember all car companies are businesses and they look at every decision that way, the M3 sedan doesn't sell all that well, but they are having good success with the X6 and 5 GT, they probably don't want a M3 Sedan and GT, so figure just offer the GT. I think anyone buying the sedan will easily switch to the GT, and if you want a coupe why do you care? And for everyone saying the X6 and 5 GT have failed, based on what??? because you don't see as many of them as you do normal 5 series or 3 series? so have the 7 series and 6 series failed as well? BMW considers both of these a success because they went into production with estimated sales are are passing those numbers, they are making money which means they have not failed. |

yuck no thanks
also why is the new m5 only making 555hp? shouldn't the engine be upped a bit more than current X5M and X6M?

5er GT is an alternative to alternatives, it has a strict client base and has what we have found out brought first time BMW Customers to the brand in which many are from design and culture based backgrounds. Adding a 5er GT might just over saturate the choices in which M5 , M6 and their variants and not forgetting the X-M's. The M3 sedan came about due to the increase of the M5 and how it opened up the market for the E90 M3 Sedan , it all depends on where the M5 is positioned and whether this justifies a replacement for the sedan. Quote:
5er GT and 3er GT are aimed at two seperate groups of customers , with the 3er we are translating style , elegance and purpose but also with serious driving dynamics. Quote:
The new 3er Coupe uses the same idea. The look will be familiar but there is a hint of 6 in the profile especially how the car sits , it will be very premium looking , headlights , like todays car , utilising the same shape but more angular and pushed in towards the body. The 3er like the 6er will be using the indicators underneath the headlights like the 6, surrounded by a wide grille. The Cabrio retains the folding hardtop due to the huge popularity of the car , especially in markets like Europe , The US and in the past couple of years China. The Cabrio is a huge seller there , especially popular amongst young females. But the 3er Coupe does look good with "two extra doors" just like the Gran Coupe 6er and is on the shelf for BMW's strategy for investigating the expansion of the Premium Entry segment? So watch this space. |

It's called maintaining a viable business. The key to continued improvement to the bottom line is increasing market share. One way to improve market share is to diversify your product a bit. So, it makes sense that BMW wants a piece of the crossover action. Crossovers are hot. If I were at the helm in Munich, I'd do the same thing.

BMW views it as a resounding success. Read the article.
