You guys all have it good , im in deeper than all of you

im 21 yrs old just had a accident 2 years ago (not my fault)

orderd a 2011 zcp coupe fully loaded paid 50 down and 20 k financed , they said i would be able to keep the car in my name and have it insured under my stepfather's corporate policy (which i currently have a 2008 tl-s insured in the same way)

after i sent them the proof of insurance, they said i cant do that, now im stuck trying to get my own policy in NYC Queens

which is close to impossible

everyone i spoke to so far has givin me rates of 12k + for a 6 month term o_O wich is crazy!! i hate living in nyc

i dont know what to do, i really wanted the car before my brithday (25th of this month)

but i doubt ill be able to,all i have is 1 broker left who is trying to help me out, but thats my last hope

if any of you guys know anyone who can help me obtain my own policy , it would be deeply appricated

Get your stepfather or another family member to be registered on the car with you and you can save some money.

^yeah i didnt really want to owe too much on it, i only financed 20k so i could build some credit

but it sucks so bad that i have been waiting for over 2months for it and now that its so close, i cant even get it shipped to my house without insurance

its not even my fault, the guy i orderd it from said it would of been ok and now his manager is saying its not

what should i do?

I was tripping out about paying $135 a month in Texas on a 2008 Corvette. I am 32 and have USAA. Note to self, never move to NYC.
I have a better idea,- I move to Texas, lease 2 (two) M3's at $850 a month and still save more money than leasing an M3 in Brooklyn?

P.S. Auto Insurance rates are cheaper in NYC than in Brooklyn, which are a couple of miles apart...

I just ran a quote for zip code in Manhattan NYC, I do have address there and can register the car. Geico said I would need proof of address, such as utility bill or a phone bill on my name and some sort of contract from Garage where I would park the car in NYC. Well.... the difference in price for NYC vs Brooklyn was about 50% cheaper to insure M3 in NYC !!! It is rediculous, I know.... since all 5 boroughs Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island, Mnhattan,- it is all NYC!!! I don't understand why 1 mile from one borough to next would mean huge difference in price of auto insurance? It all means that people that live in other boroughs than Manhattan get bumped to $13k /year for auot insurance, therefore simply can not afford auto insurance for a car such as M3? So, the ownership of M3 and such in any of other 5 boroughs is not possible. Is this even legal?

However, my advice to you: try to find a friend or a relative or a girlfriend that has an address in NYC- Manhattan and register car there. If you manage to get the policy down to $6k/year,- it might be affordable then?

^yeah im willing to pay $500 a month since i understand im young, and i know it would go down lower once i get older and have had insurance for a year

but paying 2k a month is just crazy

my mom works in the city and her bose is very nice so they might let me do that, thanks for the advice

hopefully it all works out, and also my dad lives in CT so it may be way cheaper if i do it down there, but would i need a CT drivers license?

If you got CT insurance you need your car registered in CT and have CT plates. Drivers license state doesn't matter until it is up for renewal.

I'd rather drive a cheap car than paying 10k per year for the insurance... At least not for an M3. Get a used Acura TL or something.

WOW!!! That is just insane. I do not care how much I loved the car or how much money I made. I could NOT justify paying 13k a year for car insurance...

I am 31 with a clean record no tickets or accidents. (Used to have a DL suspension but that has been off my record for years) With Farmers insurance full coverage (towing, free glass repair, 250 deductable etc etc) to insure both my 2008 135i and 2011 M3 it will be $720 every 6 months. As the Insurance agent stated some things do help. I have a college education discount, multiple car discount, drive each car under 5,000 miles a year discount, home owners discount (I also insure my condo through Farmers), Good driver discount..etc etc. All those things help out.
