At a crossroad - advice please
Hey guys, I currently own an '11 e92 (stripped) M3 and have loved every minut of ownership. However, over my two years or so of ownership, every now and then I've found myself longing for some amenities (sat radio, iPod connector, etc) or something more (comp package, edc, mdrive). That being said, I feel like I'm at a bit of crossroads with the car. I've looked long and hard at other vehicles in the price range (and slightly below and above) and I've found that most are either undesirable to me or they have a new model coming out in the near future (Cayman, Sti). So I'm trying to decide among the follow options:
1) Keep my car and see what the next M3, Cayman, etc have to offer in a few years. 2) Trade my M3 for another e92 with perhaps comp pkg, and some other options 3) Trade for another car now - C63 AMG Coupe, Boss Mustang, CTS-V Coupe? Your advice is MUCH appreciated |

The C63 AMG would be a nice change. It's a nice car. Just make sure to get the optional LSD, and optional Bi-xenon lighting package.

I love the look of the CTS-V Coupe. never drove one, but my wife's cadillac SRX from 07' has been flawless in five years.

Another option is to keep your car and add comp wheels, iPod adaptor + speakers, and upgrade your suspension.
Is it amenities and features, or you want different things from a car these days?

Keep your car and wait for the new M3.
Posts like these is why I always go a bit overboard and get all the options/features I want when ordering a new car. Better to have something and rarely use it, than to not have it and wish you did Works good for resale, too. Few with pass over a car with a few "extra" options, but your car could be missing that one thing that makes it an immediate "pass" by many buyers. |

You are feeling like the car you have is not exactly what you wanted. It sucks. You paid $$. You want what you want. Now I know how it feels like to get *exactly* what I wanted, and man, is it ever worth the money... My advice: Trade when you find something you really want more/ when it makes most financial sense for you (doesn't mean you can't afford it, just means the timing may be off - car could still be too new and there are incentives on the new ones or whatever) In the meantime, enjoy your ride and continue to keep it in good condition until you trade. I know, easy to say, hard to do. We're enthusiasts. The itch can be bad.

You might be disappointed if you trade your car for another e92 M3 with just a few features. You might realize that having a few features didn't justify the time and expense of the trade.
How about adding some cool mods to your current car to tide you over while you wait for the next round of cars (new M3, Cayman, etc.)? |

I don't think the trouble and cost to find a loaded M would be worth it unless you switch to e90 for a change...otherwise the options will be like....meh...good to have but not life changing. I say use the money on some tires and hit the track...then sit tight til you really want to trade for something else

Thanks for the advice so far guys, I've actually thought about just modding my current M as well. The prospect of picking up a new car with all of the features you want already is just so tempting sometimes though.

A few of the features the "new" ///M will have that are really tempting are the color Heads Up Display (shows street names, turning directions) and the multitude of cameras. Very useful for avoiding curb rashes or lip scrapes.

Wait 'til there is a car that gets you really excited, so that you don't want to even think about anything else. If nothing is that exciting to you, just keep rolling in you current ride. It'd be pretty easy to start modding and get everything you want.

I think its tough too...
For me the option is either going to be upgrade to a Porsche (911 or cayman R/S) or go for another M3/4 when it comes out. I have not been a huge fan of BMWs turbo engines since they started so I am a very hesitant about the new m3/4. |

Honestly, if you get a Sweeeeet deal on a trade for a comp pkg + what other options you want, then go for it and keep the car till you decide whether you like the next M or not. If you do, that could also give you time for BMW to work out the kinks in that car within the first few years. Just my opinion. If you DON'T get a good deal, just spend some of the money you would have on a new ride to mod away. I personally wouldn't be able to live without a Nav screen. My Civic Si even has a Navigation, so I know the temptations you are feeling and as far as I know you can add a factory navigation to your car. Good luck with your decision! |
