Flood of used M's

I'm in the market for a CPO 2011-2013 M3 and I'm thinking I should wait until the new model comes out so I can take advantage of a poss price drop and maybe an increase in trade-ins at my local dealer...
Does that sound reasonable?

That sounds good, although some people will say get what you want now. I don't necessarily agree, if you time it well you can save a lot of money.

Watch out with that line of thinking. There is a company enthusiast auto which has already started to buy and mark up the well configured low mileage E9x inventory. They have totally killed the E46 market already. 40k for an E46? ha.

Your idea makes logical sense, but in reality there is no big line of M3 owners waiting to trade in on an M4. Some of them will but the market has already anticipated the release of the M4 and has already adjusted.

Any further price drops of the E92 M3 is almost entirely related to the fact that it is getting older.

find your M now and find a good deal. You will not see a firesale of one of the only cars in this price range with ALOT more demand than supply.

I don't think they'll be a flood just a steady turnover as the F80/82's are sold. There are always a few that will turn in 1 - 2 year old cars so they can have the new issue. I'm might be a little more patient in buying one than normal, but if you find the right one buy.

You can always wait for price drops but if i was to look for a m3 now, just as long as the right one comes up and the price is acceptable, I would just snag it. I had a friend that looked for e46 m3s in 2008 til 2010. The price stands pretty much the same so he never jumped on it... And it was really hard to find one he liked in good condition too.

I'm in the same position you are. The values seem to be dropping to very reasonable levels these days. I'm seeing some very nice 2008 M3's with options and lower miles in the mid 30s. They just don't last long!

I've seen 2008 mid 30's on ebay and autotrader. I haven't seen anything remotely close local. Most of the ones around that price are non-CPO or without warranty and even multiple owners. Good luck!

I am on the opposite end of the spectrum. I have been think of selling mine for nearly 2 years. Thinking I should sell before the price drops. Even though I don't have the time to drive it much (two little ones and not a DD) I can't seem to let it go. I love it too much........the sounds it makes are part of the equation. The new car sounds horrible therefore I don't think I will buy it. Maybe I will wait for a M2......I don't know. Anyway, I think some E9x M3 owners will just hold onto their cars......I might.

There is nothing wrong with looking for the best deal and waiting a bit for it, but if you like these cars then buy one. If there is any financial question about owning, considering the potential operating and maintenance costs, perhaps you should buy a new M4 with the warranty instead.

Yeah no matter how long you wait, the prices will continue to drop after you purchase like anything else. There will be no magic perfect time to buy.

Just go find a car and buy it.
