This will be the first mod I do on my E92. My E46 got the lock popped the first day I owned it. They stole an old broken cell phone, cd book, and the owners manual. I was pissed.

It does not fit as tightly against the door handle. the gap between the two is larger than the stock lock piece. It aint terrible, but I notice.
Also, it sits at a slightly different angle. It is tilted slightly up compared to the stock piece. Again, the non-M owner would never notice. Maybe I wouldn't had I not seen both back to back, I dunno. For now, I am leaving it installed and I will see how I like it. I will try to take some pics tomorrow. Maybe I will reinstall the stock piece and take some pics of both so you can see the difference.

Here are two pics. One stock, one with cover. You can see how it "tilts" a bit. Being as there is only one screw holding it all in place, there is no way to adjust the tilt as far as I can tell.

Thanks Tim. I am on my third one. The first one fit perfectly, but the color was off. The second one was like yours, apart from the tilt, there was a larger gap next to the door handle. Fingers crossed for the third one.

The fit is very snug. There is really no way to adjust it. Also, I am thinking all they did was buy some of the drivers side rear door pieces from an E90 M3, etc. (no locks on the rear doors) and paint them. I am going to now pull the rear door cover and compare it to the replacement one I bought to see if there is any difference. Then I am going to see if that will fit the front door and check for fit and finish. I will let you know what I find.

I had to take a Dremel tool (grinder) to the inside of it to reduce a raised lip in the molded plastic where it touches the lock. After that, it fit perfectly.
