M3 catless ?
Hi,
I refer to PG, he gained about 8 bhp / whp ? by deleting the catalysts ( all ). This is based on his dyno's. Is this really worth the hassle and the money ? Please post your opinions here. Thanks, Eugen |

IMO, if you delete the cats it smells like a go cart. If you want the most power and don't mind the smell and don't have inspections go for it. If you do mind the smell and you have inspections quite often, don't go catless.

I've had Dinan stage 3 E46 M3 and now most of bolt-on modded Dinan E90M3.
This is very first time running my car w/o cats (Dinan midpipe) and I never felt that much power gain from single mod (I personally don't like any SC or Turbo mods-I'm a fan of N/A engine). Power? Def. worth it. Smell? Yes- it's there but kinda got used to it but I still hate the smell. Inspection/Emission? I know I'll be in trouble so need to put stock backon when time comes but I don't need one till 2013 so I don't worry too much. Green factor? Admit- it's very selfish and irresponsible. Overall impressions? It's the damn power that I enjoy most and can't give up.

Dinan claims 22whp w/their catless setup...I believe other tuners offering similar products claim about the same. Even upgraded xpipes w/HFC's are getting 12-20whp. You add a tune to that and you should get another 9-15whp

Doing the primary cat delete only in my car definitely has netted more than 8WHP. I think more like 20WHP and a whole lot more torque.
Definitely recommend the primary cat delete only, no smell issues and retain that stock OEM exhaust sound. |

My thoughts too. Being catless, there's a movie quote I think of at each start up: "I love the smell of napalm in the morning"

I received my dinan exhaust at time of delivery. After about 1500 miles I ordered the dinan mid-pipes. Once they were installed I noticed a significant power increase, based on my butt dyno. I did not get the car dyno'd before and after, but my butt dyno could definitely feel the difference.
Of course all of this was done prior to be getting the S/C. Also, I love the deep tones at low rpm and the screaming at WOT. I think the cat-less setup is worth it for more power and the added sound tones.

I think many use PG's dyno charts as a benchmark so kudos to him. I've quoted his dyno charts myself but I think 8WHP is something I would challenge for going catless. Reputable firms all quote 3 times as much HP are they lying? Doubt it.
If it really is 8HP, it's absolutely NOT worth it. Considering the cost of an x-pipe, emissions implications, legal implications and warranty issues, it's barely worth it at 25WHP. Sound is subjective and depends greatly on the rear section and the combination of Xpipe.
