Road Trip Preps.... any tips?

I`m going to be going on a 2,500 mile road trip soon and need some tips on what I should do to prepare.

I`ve made a spreadsheet on miles, gas, money, distance, overnight etc. Pretty thorough.

I`m looking for items to actually bring in case of emergency.

Some things I`ve considered are:
1. Emergency roadside kit
2. Engine Oil
3. Gas can

Any other recommendations based on experience?

What about the Blue Painters Tape? I`ve never used it before but was considering it to avoid chips. But to be honest, I hate the look.

What do you think about if I use a lot of wax on the front end and then change the wax when I get to my destination.

Appreciate the inputs.

Yes, the wax will help with bugs etc. I always try to bring the things you listed as well:
-Some Microfiber towels
-First Aid Kit
-Torque Wrench for our wheels/tires if something happens
-Glass Cleaner for windshield

The painters tape helps with chips even though it looks like crap.

I've used the road wrap and still do. I think it's better than blue tape. It's difficult to put on without any wrinkles (not sure if it's even possible) but I've used it on long road trips as well as on the track and it works great. Easy enough to apply (except for wrinkles) and easy to take off and also stays on at speeds above 100 mph.

I've only used it on the sides since I have a clear shield on the front.

I`ll give it a shot and plan to replace it depending on how it holds up. My car is AW and I think the roadwrap with wrinkles will still look better than blue tape all over the front of my car.

Thanks for the road wrap info. (didnt know about it..). I'll definitely pick some up for my next long trip since I dont have a clear bra either. Love the fact you get there and just toss it in the garbage. (I could care less how my car looks to semi's and folks on the highway anyway....cleaning off a million dead bugs off my bumper in 60 seconds is worth it..cool)

Blue painters tape is my good friend when going on long trips. I always keep two rolls in my trunk.

I still like the Colgan bra...for about $110 you get very tight fit that protects the front of the car totally. You can even get the Colgan mirror bras. I use mine on long trips and on the track. Last week I unfortunately went off the track because I didn't let my tires heat up enough. On the way off the track, I took out 3 cones. The cones let skid marks on the bra. but otherwise the car was untouched. Also there was no flapping up to 140+ mph on the track. When I got home I just took off the bra and ran it through my washing machine and then let it air dry. It was perfect and clean. For an extra $20 or so you can get the bra in the carbon fiber look. It might be right out of the 70's and not look good on an M3, but I'll still be using one....it looks so much better than blue tape.

Bug Off!

Looking at this thread it reminded me to ask if anyone has tried Griot's Garage "Bug off"...it looks like a syrupy type liquid you spray on the front and it catches the bug crap, but washes off easily. This might be the answer for a long road trip.

Any experiences/advice on using it?

I like to resurrect this thread. Any other LA to Seattle December road trip suggestions?
