Most cars will work with the basic cradle. You'll need to also purchase the base plate and a trim piece. Only cars with the smartphone factory option and the new app option can take advantage of the music and media cradles. |

So, I have a 2011 M3 with 6NF but my build date was May 2010. I currently have the 3G iPhone adapter. It is useless for my iPhone 4 but it was great for the 3G. Does this mean that the music adapter will not work with my car? What! Does the basic adapter play music or is it just for phone connectivity? The first batch of 2011 M3s did not support A2DP or cover art, and as far as I know, they are not upgradeable. Is that right? Am I stuck with the Y adapter? The original Apple iPhone USB cable doesn't even work with this idrive version.

From the photo, it doesn't look like it will fit when the phone has a bumper case fitted,

Does the basic adapter play music or is it just for phone connectivity? >> Well the basic adapter is just for phone charging and allowing it to use the cars external antenna. Connectivity for calls is still actually done via bluetooth. The basic adapter won't provide music support though. The first batch of 2011 M3s did not support A2DP or cover art, and as far as I know, they are not upgradeable. >> Correct, but check out the "combox" retrofit thread. This would apply to you and potentially allow you to gain these features. Its not officially offered by BMW but theres folks on this forum offering a retrofit .. or will offer it soon-ish. Is that right? Am I stuck with the Y adapter? The original Apple iPhone USB cable doesn't even work with this idrive version. >> Yup, for now, unless you go down the Combox retrofit path ... or you buy the new Iphone 4 music cradle. Good luck. |

BMW really needs to get their act together on releasing cradles. We're about 4 months away from the release of the iPhone 5! Considering that many people update their iPhone every year, it would be nice if they could release the docks within the first couple of months.

What we will need is a iPhone Cradle trading spot - so there can be a place to trade/sell cradles as users upgrade.

As annoying as it is, BMW can't be completely blamed for this. The cell phone industry is probably one of the fastest changing/evolving industries with very little standarization between manufacturers, BMW is always playing catch-up.

I'm sure the Verizon phone may have also contributed a delay. It has to be tough for companies like BMW to keep up. I can't wait for it to come out but am not surprised that is taking a while.

BMW is to blame, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS run the same OS as iPhone 4. It's a form factor issue. In fact, some forum members have successfully converted 3GS adapters to fit the iPhone 4 by sawing off small pieces that blocked the iPhone 4 from properly sitting in the cradle.
The Music and Video adapter maybe one thing, since it requires a March 2011 build date, but they could have released the adapter and music versions months ago. It just sucks to buy the smartphone integration and not be able to use it because you have a phone that is popular, sold by a single company, and 8-9 months old. On top of the fact that Apple gives case and accessory suppliers early form factor info... not to mention the fact that BMW and Apple are in bed together. It is just low on BMW priority list. |

bmwusa.com states clearly that the smartphone integration is: "For iPhone™ and similar devices, allows access to stored music, can improve signal reception, and recharges the battery." IPhone 4 is also listed as a compatible device. To me, this is false advertising. It is not fully compatible at this moment with the smartphone integration.

I modified a 3GS adapter and it doesn't work. My iPhone 4 fits perfect in the adapter but I get an error message saying it's not made for that adapter. The I-Drive can't see the phone when attached. If I plug it into the wired adapter it recognizes it no problem. Anyone else have this problem?

My '09 Idrive software was updated this week and now have some issues. Wondering if they loaded 11.5 combox software by mistake. I see a video option in the menu that doesnt work, I have a blank place for album artwork that does not work, and have no entries for song/album/artist listed. It will load names if i search, but still wont display them in current playback.

All these iPhone 4 parts are very confusing. My UK dealer has told me the part for the iPhone 4 is not out yet? Anyone in the UK who has it, please let me know where you got it from.
Thanks
