Pricing Input for Selling 2009 E93 with 32,000 miles?

I am thinking about selling my E93 M3 as we are moving again to a cold climate and I am just tired of storing the car and we will be more urban in our new location and don't want to to deal with snow tires and other poor drivers.

Would any of the sage persons who populate this board care to pitch in their two cents as to the vehicles present worth?

2009 M3 Convertible
Silverstone II / Bamboo Non Extended / Carbon Leather Trim
6 Speed Manual
32,500 miles

Navigation
Comfort Access
Cold Weather Package
Premium Package
Premium Audio
Rear Sensors
19 Inch Rims
Ipod Input and Cable

Modded OEM exhaust (perforated replacement)
Drop in filter
2012 NAV Maps

Military physician owned, never tracked or raced.
Delivered in Germany in March 2009, serviced in Germany and stored winters
Moved to Kansas in June 2012, serviced through BMW dealer and stored winters.
Moved to Texas in June 2013, most recent oil change approx 6,000 miles ago

Overall very good condition with a few random stone chips and minor curb rash to 3 rims. Driver's seat shows a little wear that is appropriate for age. Front black plastic part (near felt pieces) cracked (about $180 part), and currently zip tied up. It actually looks fine when looking at the front, but probably should be replaced if you are a perfectionist.

Front bumper professionally resprayed with former Euro plate holes filled with color matched reflectors in place. I have the painted US plate mount for the front, which has never been installed.

Never smoked in, no pets, and rarely kids. Leatherique'd regularly and hand washed always.

New Michelin Pilot Super Sports about 11,000 miles ago at all four corners. I got almost 20,000 miles out of the OEM PS2 set. I replaced all four as I did not want to mix Michelin models and had a sidewall nick in one of the fronts.

I have not bothered to post pictures as this is more of a feeler thread. The car is currently located in San Antonio, TX with Kansas title in hand.

Your thoughts?

- Jim

curb rash to 3 rims? bummer. KBB would be a GREAT bet as mentioned. BTW how did you get 20K out of the OEM PS2s?? I'm replacing rears every 5K-7K miles with no hard driving or tracking. I do not sit and do donuts with them, they just melt away on the south FL roads.

There is a pretty wide range between the two. While each is a good guide, a regional auction value is probably the best bet, although those values are a bit hard to come by.

Thanks! I have really enjoyed it and it pains me to sell it, but after four years of winter storage and then one of not, I am just not looking forward to storing it again. Aside from taking it to work, it just sits in the driveway when it comes to "family duty".

First curb rash came in a really tight German parking garage in the first month of ownership, the other two from various curbs in Germany. So it has that Euro tie-in.The smallest is about an inch, but I thought it best to mention it to be realistic. From what I have seen, a decent rim shop should be able to repair the affected rims. If I was going to keep the car, I would probably just go with a set of competition rims.

I changed out the PS2s at about 19,500 and was at the wear bars on the rear. I take it pretty easy on the car and try to keep on top of the tire pressures. A few other members have gotten up to about 20,000 on an original set. Although, there is a pretty wide variation. The PS2s were used in Germany, so perhaps the ambient temperature helped.

We ended up pulling the trigger on a replacement car without trading as the value was way off from reality. I will be back in a Honda for a few years to brave the snow and free up some cash to pay down a home, but will have to take a long hard look at another M in the future. M to Honda? Yeah, I know, but CPO, warranty, MPGs, and interior volume with growing kids make sense at this point.

I will list the car on E-bay and formally on here and see what happens.

I will leave the Swiss Autobahn sticker on the windshield as an added enticement....

good luck to you man, if you can pull it off a private party sale should bank well over what a dealer offers you. After all they have to make a profit on your trade in/sale to them + the dealer overhead. For a private sale - A bank cashiers check or better yet a wire transfer, confirmed and cleared by your bank would be the only way I'd do that with this much money. There are a lot of crooks out there.
Cheers,
X

I have had good luck with E-bay. The payment concerns do make me a little leery, but I will pay for escrow if I need to.

I will list up here, Ebay, Autotrader, and Craiglist.

$45,000 may be a little high. I will probably list it / put a reserve a little lower, given the realities of auction pricing.

Thanks for the input thus far!

My original ad on Craigslist at less than 45K was flagged and removed as I was evidently "asking too much". Haters....

Get the wheels refinished for $100 each. You will give buyers less haggle room and entice potential tire kickers (no pun intended).

If a car has curb rash on 3 wheels, I steer clear. Irresponsible parkers are irresponsible drivers.

+1
(I'd walk away from a car with 3 nicked wheels every time)

I may consider doing that. Two of the "rashes" are less than in inch in length, but I wanted to err and include all the "warts".

I think that the rash may be more of the other half's doing.....what are you going to do.
