Really don't understand this thread. Most people aspire to own an M3. The 335i bone stock is a downgrade. I'd wait until the next M3 is released and the performance numbers are out. You know you will want it the minute it's released. Just wait it out before making the decision especially if you like new things.

I've heard m3 guys gone to regular 3 then they came back. Never heard of a regular 3 guys goes to the M and leave again back to the regular 3series. Wait for the new M.

mmm, I was thinking about it as well... I really like the F30, interior is nice, and the outside it looks very mean. However, after test driving new 335 I was not impressed, and I'll take my m3's handling and power any day of the week. I have to admit, I live in country with autobahns, so highspeed driving is a big factor... street driving, you probably won't see too much difference between the two.

Depends what you need, right?
The 335 is a terrific daily driver. But the M3, imho, is another class of car. We don't even want to trade our e92 335i for the new F30... for now. Too early. First year bugs, potential upgrades coming, etc. And i like the F30 quite a lot. We are waiting for the (rumored) ///M335i and of course the new ///M3 sedan... If you're just wanting something new, I think you'll regret it when the next new thing comes.

I don't think the e90 looks dated at all... I actually like how much cleaner the lines are compared to the f30. I also like the overall shape better than the e92... the proportions are more in line with the e46 I think.
I am waiting for the f80 m3 to come before I even think about getting out of my ride. And I may wait until the LCI of the f80 m3 to make sure all the kinks are worked out of the car. I really don't think I could go to a non-M car after driving this one. But as everyone else has said, its your money, do as you see fit.

you sound like you are already leaning towards F30 335i.
Go get it. My E90 M3 is a beauty, I plan to keep it stock as long as possible This is a true M car, I honestly don't give a sxxx about M package, M sport bs on non-M cars...after all, they are just M wannabe. I guess everyone values his/her car differently, my M will be with me for a long long time. I don't plan to "replace", I'll probably start saving more and "add" more cars at this point. I don't understand people calling F30 so much improved on interior, button layout and functionality is virtually identical since E46 if you look carefully, and i HATE the mazda/volvo styled nav screen stuck on the dashboard thing...it just looks so cheap. |

faced with same choice
Don't meant to hijack this thread, but I find myself faced with the same choice between the 2 cars. Specifically i found 2 cars i am looking to trade in with my E93 M3 as I will soon need the 4 doors with another child on the way:
2013 F30 335 with M Sport 8Speed Auto with Paddle shifters Prem Pkg. Tech Pkg (HUD) Harman/Kardon BMW Apps High gloss black kidney grills CF Side mirror caps 19" wheels M Performance Brakes http://www.shopbmwusa.com/ProductDet...nterId=2674702 M Performance Exhaust http://www.shopbmwusa.com/ProductDet...nterId=2674702 OR 2011 E90 M3 Sedan with Comp Pkg DCT Built 03/11, in service 10/11 12,500miles Tech Pkg. Prem Pig Heated front seats Decent paint condition (few minor scratches touched up) Test drove the cars back to back and have summarized some observations: F30 335 - low end torque is great, esp for a DD. The Performance exhaust sounds very nice, updated interior is lovely and the HUD fantastic. Up and down shifts on the 8 Sp is a lot most responsive than i thought yet smooth as well. There's a nice subtle deep boom (cant really find the right word to describe) on upshifts, and a "heel-toe" blip on downshifts which I was pleasantly surprised. The rear door entries are a little bigger than the E90 and the door hinges open to a little wider angle. No dynamic handling package but ride is sturdy without too much body roll. On acceleration there is a significant rattle coming from the center console around the cup holder, A/c area. The F30 owners have complained of the same problem on their forum. Seems expensive with a $60k sticker. Am going to guess value at end of 2 years+24k miles will be about $35 to $38k? E90 M3 - That V8 is just lovely. Low speed maneuvering doesn't feel nice in comparison. I started typing about how the engine feels in greater detail, but realized I am probably preaching to the choir. Interior is starting to feel a little dated after getting off the F30, but this particular car has a 2 tone interior (red on black) which keeps it interesting. Ride is firmer as it has the comp pkg - those kids are going to get a good jostling around back there. Asking is $56k, so not far from the F30 after the holiday and owner loyalty discounts. Would guess value after 2 years +24k (so 35k miles by then) should look closer to $40k than the F30 especially considering the low mileage on this unit. Any thoughts highly appreciated! |

I have a 328i MSport loaner right now with Sports Automatic. The cupholders are very nice, the HUD is cool (though missing the tack feature the E60 M5 had), and I'll admit the exterior is growing on me.
Other than that, though, the nav looks tacked on, leather isn't as nice (Dakota vs. Nappa, though it probably wears better), and it definitely doesn't corner or accelerate like my M (stock). I bought mine in April with 8k on the clock and a 7/11 in-service date. I'll admit I did stare at the F30 335i in the showroom for a long time before deciding for sure, but really wanted to have the last NA V8 M3 for the foreseeable future. |

It took less than 3 seconds after starting it to start missing the V8 sounds (which I'll probably be making louder in the near future). |

I just picked one up. It rides alot less stiffer than the m3 and e90 335i. Nevertheless still a sweet ride. Softer yet very capable still in the corners. The 8 speed makes it all worth it vs the old 6sp at. I believe that old trans is almost 10 years old. N55 with 8ar is bliss. Seating is much roomier and comfortable. I like how I just sink into the seats. Feels like the 5er. Get MSPORT for sure

Or like any other person on here that asks these crazy questions I tell them to just buy a Prius! Especially if you go from M3 to 335. |

I just had one , a 2012 335i F30
I've had both e90 335i ,e92 335i , and a e46 M3. I'm glad I switched to a e92 M3 Forced induction is cool but the V8 ... If your looking for something newer and fresh , go for it, but your always going to be missing the V8

The S65/S85 engines will be considered some of the best engines ever made - even more so when you factor in displacement. On that note - I'm off to detail my ///M

No
I'd get an F30 328. Handles better and will make well over 300hp with the bolt ons. Better mileage too. Ultimate daily driver recipe

i had an E90 M3 for 3 years... loved it... thought i'd never like any other car!
after 3 months with my Msport F30 335, yes I love the car, it's certainly not an M3, certainly not nearly as thirsty as the M3, and i have noticed after detailing it a couple of times that there are less parts in this car. seems like they stripped the car down a lot of unnecessary plastic components, covers, etc. the car seems to me upon closer inspection of suspension, under the hood, and interior, that there are less moving parts (for example has only 1 belt vs 2 on the S65) the cabin air intake is not as obtrusive into the engine bay, i haven't found it yet... wheel has the felt lining, makes for an easier pressure cleaning, and just little things i've noticed on the car that makes me realize that it wasn't necessary on the E90. and I like the addition of a better, smoother, more aerodynamic undercarriage including plastic covers on the rear control arms. i also love the fact that i only have to fill up once about every week and a half versus twice per week with the M3! now if that's because i like driving in eco pro and trying to get my mileage over 500mi per tank or i just had too much fun in the M3, I don't really know the answer there... in eco pro with cruise control at 65mph (8sp sport auto) i have seen 40+ mpg on the dash!! with my 6MT E90 M3, the best i saw at that speed was 22-24mpg if i was LUCKY... at 100mph with cruise control and eco pro i get about 28-32mpg whereas with the M3 i was more around 14-17mpg again if i was LUCKY... also, I think the gas tank is a gallon smaller? hmm what else... the sport seats are WAY more comfortable for my body than the M3 seats were. the shoulder area on the M3 seats made my shoulders shrug inward, whereas with the F30, i'm able to relax my back and not feel like the seat is pushing my shoulders forward. also something that bugged me about the E90 was the power seats never went low enough for me... (yes i like to drive low, but not laid back...) the F30 seat i can get just a perfect position. Also, it seems like BMW is now using a different material for their soft-touch rubberized plastics which ALWAYS start peeling after about 2-3 years in any E9X car, and now it seems to be a more durable approach that isn't as "rubbery". the Msport wheel in the F30 feels just as nice as the E90 M3 wheel! the car is VERY quiet compared to me E90 M3 that had catless Active Autowerke exhaust.... IMO! the 8spd Sport auto is better than the 7spd DCT, seems to be more responsive under downshifting and shift speed is just as fast if not faster, and 1 extra gear is nice. compared to the E9x steptronic it's a world of a difference... my E90 M3 only made 337 HP after spending thousands... my F30 seems to be around 260 so with a tune and some bolt ons it will certainly be better than the M3 with all the bolt ons... the updated nav is so much better (i had 2008 nav in the e90) |
