Part of the reason I'm skeptical of BaT is the sight-unseen nature of buying/bidding/viewing. The comment section, particularly vindictive keyboard warriors, deters a lot of people that would otherwise be interested. Everyone thinks they're a Pebble Beach judge when they refresh the auction page and see a new *problem* with the car.

I really want to sell my car to someone who has seen AND smelled it in person. Every person who's had that opportunity agrees with me that there's no way to present or understand the condition of this car without cracking open the door to take in a whiff of 2013.

But you're overlooking one big advantage of BAT. You end up with a few people who really want the car, bidding against each other which drives up the price to your benefit. And, they pay the buyers fee. There is no sellers fee like on other auction sites.

If I had your car, I'd go BAT 100% without second thought.

I've taken a lot of photos, "lighting" should not change in the reflection, and that difference in the reflected color was obvious from multiple angles. Perhaps there was something else in the reflection we couldn't see (the drivers door looks fine). So the door may have never been repainted, but it's possible this was the result of a less then perfect blend job that the seller didn't even know about. Only a close inspection and paint gauge would tell.

Either way, IMO a car with any body work (even if its dealership completed on a cooler looking bumper) doesn't add value to a car. But people have money to spend, so I'm sure the buyer would be happy.

The seller may not have been aware of a repaint but there definitely was something off there. I'm tending to agree with you on the blend. Something happened up front and a shop blended it back to the trailing edge on the door. That is accepted practice.
There is the possibility that this was a car damaged in transit and repaired by either the port or the assigned dealer. Dealership bodywork can be perfect, or a perfect disaster. The port facility I wouldn't know either way, but I would imagine since this kind of thing is fairly regular they may have some really good facilities there.

I still don't think we're seeing a color difference- I think whomever shot the paint didn't get the flop right on the metallic, so the paint is catching/throwing the light at a different angle from the back quarter of the car. That can appear as a difference in color similar to how some metallics look different in varied lighting and viewing angles.

Yup, nothing will ever come out of the gun the same as the robot in Munich. And most people would never know unless you have the right brand of OCD...but once you see it, it's often hard to unsee. I actually got into a fight with a dealer because my first car was damaged in transit, repaired (poorly, there was a clear run in the clear coat) and they pointed out it doesn't count as damage if it happens before delivery and since I accepted the car after dark it was my fault. Wound up having to pay to have it wet sanded out but I learned to go over the whole car with a Qtip before accepting it now.

Maybe not for you, but consider that it would be relatively easy to install a non-nav dash from a normal 3series into a car with factory nav. At least easier than it would be to do the reverse.

Nice one. Rusty rotors need to be driven. This car is worth the ask.

Same here - I'm a Huuuuge BMW blue fan but this color is just ok to me, doesn't really float my boat. Interlagos LSB SMB Estoril Lemans MonteCarlo YAS ... the list goes on but this would be at the bottom. It is unique and rare for sure.

VIN comes up as "car not found". That could be a database error, manufacturer reporting error, or...

I think I need to BaT mine. Just clicked 15K mi, ordered car, never seen wet roads, etc. Hmm. What to get next though, that would be a problem.
