"this is an engine that Ferrari would be proud of, except that Ferrari would never have managed to create an engine like this, because someone overdosing on industrial strength espresso would have gone out to buy a pack of cigarettes halfway through the build and forgotten to put the spark plugs in. This is an engine that is precision itself, tyrannical perfection. This is an engine that could only have come from Germany"

That was an exciting read, Ford seems quite taken with the new M3 to say the least. Love the opener about the photographer.

Great post, thanks.

Wow

All I can say is wow, almost speecheless. Very impressive review, thanks for posting. The highlights for me were almost too many to list (but I will anyway)
  • Exterior: "It's pretty aggtressive, ful of detail, but not overblown."
  • "This is an engine Ferarri would be proud of"
  • "this is an engine that is precision itself, tyrannical perfection."
  • "BMW has gone for balance. Insanely fast balance, true, but balance nonetheless."
  • "on roads like these, brakes take a complete hammering...the M3 stoppers never break even a significatnt sweat"
  • Sound: "it's a remarkable sonic experience"
  • "when you really stretch, it warbles, then grunts, then screams."
  • "it has a vocal range that would leave Mariah Carey popping an eyeball."
  • "It isn't the most hardcore car BMW could have made...that's the best thing about it; its real accessible speed."
  • "Bring on the group tests, bring on the awards discussion meetings - I'll bring the M3."

Thanks a million for the scan! That was awesome. This car is going to be the new standard that most will have to live up to. Back to the drawing board Audi. Let's see what the RS5 will have in store for us.

Many diehard e46 M3 fans may not like the looks of the upcoming M3, but almost all respect its new V8.

Wow what a great review. They even contradicted some of the early reviews about how bad the brakes were. Sweet!

Nice find!

No Audi boys in here....Not even the self-proclaimed "un-biased" ones.

I was actually surprised that it got such a great review. But only cause of the hating that was going on all over the forums. I was rooting for a great review and extra surprised that Top Gear would write such a good one cause they are known to trash cars. I'm so happy right now!

that's three solid reviews from three solid publications now.

1) top gear
2) evo
3) car and driver

ye of shaken faith, rejoice.

1,655kg ? at least it's a good review but 3,648lbs isn't lightweight. The 335 weighs 3,571 what am I missing here? I thought it was supposed to be lighter?
