Good Job! You beat me by 3 seconds on my PS2s! Yeah, R-comps make a huge difference. Glad you got the pulleys in before the event.

Thanks! I was hoping to see you out there. I know they call it Midwest Domestics but it almost seemed like a Bimmer event, there were tons of BMWs!

There was lots of the candy there. Bunch of stripped out race prepped BMWs, race prepped Corvette's, a Maserati Ex (Challenge?) Race car, there were one or two F82 M3s, one F80 M3, a bunch of GT3s and a GT3 RS, etc.

I'm only doing two events this year, Gingerman, and the autobahn. I'm done with road america for a while. I'm no longer going to do more than an event or two a year, as i'm settling down with my fiancée. Glad you had a blast.

Ahh OK. I'm going to Gingerman later this year with a Honda group, but would consider ABCC (especially if it's full track). What group are you going to Autobahn with?

Tires: BFGoodrich R1S 285/30/18 square on Apex Arc-8 10.5" (tires on 2nd day)
Suspension: JRZ RS Pro
Other mods: VF620, RD Sport front sway bar, car is gutted with full roll cage, APR 67" GT-250 wing, carbon lip, APR front splitter, Akrapovic X-Pipe, exhaust: straight through with resonators, Recaro Pro Racer halo seat, Euro-MDM on.

I have never driven with R1S tires at Big Willow. I wanted to get a baseline time with them with Euro-MDM on since that's what I'm familiar with. I really like the R1S tires. They just feel good on my car.

I also drove with DSC-off, but kept getting caught in traffic, so I don't have any good times to report with DSC-off. Plus, I had to cut the day short because I needed to get back home. So, results with DSC-off will have to wait. MDM definitely does not like the Turn 3/4/5 combo when you're trying to go fast. It's just unhappy there.

Anyway, I haven't been to Willow Springs in 5 months, and this PR was my first hot lap of the day. I was definitely rusty going through Turns 3/4/5 on my first hot lap, but the overall result was good. Ultimately, I did three laps in the 27's: 1:27.5, 1:27.7 and 1:27.8. The slower 27's had better sectors on the first half of the track than the PB lap since they happened later. After looking at the AIM data, it's clear that I can clean up my driving quite a bit. I have no doubt that better results are possible. I just don't get to Big Willow that often so it's hard to get into the groove there.

Oh yeah, and I caught up with a raced out Lambo at the end of the lap, so I let the video run a bit longer than usual after the finish line so we can admire it's highlighter-ness.

Here's the video:

Heh its that same damn lambo that kept messaging to my hot laps at the buttonwillow event.

I had a great outing at VIR last month. This was my first time running with r compound tires and dedicated track brake pads.

In the past, my laps had usually hovered in the 2:17 range. I had a ton of lap time on this 3 day weekend, which allowed me to really bring down my times.

Track/Course: VIR Full
Best Lap Time: 2:11.73
Brakes: PFC08 pads
Tires (Size & Model): Nitto NT01, 275/35/18 all around
Other Mods: Camber plates

VIR full NASA Hyperfest

Track VIR full
Event NASA TT May 20th/21st 2016
E92 M3 DCT (still street legal)

Best Lap Time: 2:05.23 (Harry's and NASA transponder result)
Tires: Hoosier 295/315
Suspension: KW CS
Other mods: see my signature

Had a good weekend, won 2nd place on Saturday in TT3, was beaten by only 0.25 sec by a Corvette. However my best lap in the afternoon got destroyed by a competitor's blown tire right in front of me. That lap was a virtual time of 2:03:30! Next time...
Car feels great , all mods work. Car is still too heavy (with driver and 3/4 gas) 3655 lbs.
Cheers

I decided last minute to go to Speed Ventures' Auto Club Speedway today. Had a really fun day! Turn out was pretty light so there was some nice open track.

I go to Auto Club Speedway very infrequently. I think this was only my fourth or fifth visit there ever. Honestly, the oval's not really my cup of tea. Anyway, I DEMOLISHED my previous best from a couple years ago by over 7 seconds. According to the transponder, I ran two laps in the 1:46's today. For the record, DSC was off.

E90 M3
Track/course: Auto Club Speedway
Best Lap Time: 1:46.62 (transponder)
Brakes: AP Racing - Cobalt Friction XR2 front/XR3 rear
Tires: Hankook TD 295/30/18 square on Apex Arc-8 10.5" (new tires)
Suspension: JRZ RS Pro
Other mods: VF620, RD Sport front sway bar, car is gutted with full roll cage, APR 67" GT-250 wing, carbon lip, APR front splitter, Akrapovic X-Pipe, exhaust: straight through with resonators, Recaro Pro Racer halo seat, DSC-off.

The car felt great. The aero is incredible on the oval. It REALLLY holds the car down. My max speed on the oval today according to GPS speed was 154.2 mph. That is the fastest I have ever gone in any car. My quickest minimum speed on the oval today was 130 mph.

Here's the video:

Track: Gingerman Raceway
E92 335i Auto

Best Lap Time: 1:47.48
Tires: Hankook R-S3 (5 track days old)
Other mods: AP BBK w/ Colbat XR2 front axle, Stock caliper w/ PFC 08 rear axle, TCK DA coilovers, LSD, Tuned and modded engine at about 370-380whp, and bunch of boring reliability mods that you can read from my signature.

Car is quite a bit down on power this time since I detune it to run on 93 pump gas instead of E85 like before. Lost about a second from my last year's time, but I think the tradeoff in sheer speed is well worth it since I can better concentrate on improving my braking and cornering. Was hoping to improve the lines even more in the later sessions, but my water pump starts to fail (about time I suppose), which was a big bummer.

Still a great time for Gingerman!
What tire sizes do you run? It's a little hard to tell from a video but it seems your car has some understeer that might be limiting the overall grip.

Still impressed with the power to be honest. Even on this tune it still seems like it has a hint more grunt than most E9x M3s. Likely just all that mid range torque really showing itself.

265/35R18 front, and 275/35R18 rear, but it rubs on the front fender a bit even at -3.0 degree camber, so I probably gonna move back to 255 for the next set.

Yeah, this car always understeer, from stock suspension, to the upgraded spring/shock with Dinan camber plate kit I ran before, to the TCK coilover w/ Vorshalg plat that I run right now. I have learnt to deal with it by applying more trail braking, but if you guys have some tips to help with this more, I am all ears. I am also running E93 M3 front sway, and non-M stock rear sway, spring rates are 400lb-in front and 700lb-in rear just FYI. -3 degree front and -2 rear for camber, -0.1 toe front and rear.

M cars can run wider and lower offset wheels up front and 275-285 tires up front, so I guess it might help quite a bit.

You are correct more trailbraking is probably the best way to drive around it.
If I were you I would swap to a stock front sway bar or alternatively put on an M rear sway bar. In your case what you want to do is to increase the stiffness of the rear relative to the front which will actually help front end grip. If you still have the stock front bar I would try that first since it would be free and your spring rates now seem pretty reasonable.

Yeah, actually still have the stock sway along with the slightly stiffer OE Performance front sway that came with my last spring kit. Will swap out to one of them when I get the water pump taken care of and see how it works out.

Not keen on running stiffer sway in the rear, car can already a handful with all that torque as you can see from my vids lol.

Went to a SpeedSF event for the first time at Laguna Seca today. Really enjoyed it! Nice guys.

This was the first time driving Laguna Seca with DSC-off, full aero and R1S tires. Lots to adjust to, but I was happy with the results---1:36.4. Everything on the car was working nicely today.

I had to put on my stock exhaust to make the 90db sound limit. That went fine, although I still feel like I tip-toe through there. In general, there's definitely more time to be had. I did have a faster lap going but messed up braking going towards the corkscrew.
