i'll try not to get too deep on it...
long time ago there was DOCSIS 1 this was rated up to a certain amount. then came DOCSIS 2 same thing. bottom line if you have one of the first cable modems like i did (motorola) it was rated at 30ish mb down... all i received was 6mb... after upgrading to a docsis 2 i received the new burst tech that when up to 16mb for 10 megs or so (dependant upon carrier) your computer will not be faster but your ability to download files over the internet will be faster.... if you are restricted by an older modem. ppp

That's like replacing the mouse because your dissatisfied with the click speed. If your internet downloads are slow there's about 100 different things you could do to speed it up. Firstly go to http://www.bandwidth**********/ and check your speed. I get DOWN 3.56 megabits per second UP 434.06 kilobytes per second Which sucks, but it's acceptable. There's several registry hacks you can do that will speed your connecttion too. Also if you use IE switch to Chrome or Firefox. Tell us your computer specs, processor, memory and such. Seriously I can tell you what your problem is in a matter of minutes. I'd also go with what Potty_Pants said and tell your carrier your modem blew and you need a new one. |
