Now Official: Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0
http://www.autoblog.com/2011/04/28/o...11-gt3-rs-4-0/
Nice! Now will they put a version of this motor, in 4.0L form, in the next generation GT3 or GT3 RS too? I do remember hearing something about this engine being retired in favor of the 9A1 though. |

How do you know if it "delivers"??? None of these cars are in the US yet. I was talking to my Porsche sales rep. about this car and it will come here around September or later if you order it now. Base price is $185K plus whatever you want (PCCB not included and I would not put that piece of shit in it anyway) It is hardly a bargain when you can have a F430 scud for the same price.

It'll be fantastic if it's offered in more quantities, I hope it's not a limited run. i would def. buy a 4.0L if it came in the standard GT3 trim

Do you guys know what roll the Metzger engine will play in the various factory race car efforts going forward? Will they only use it in the next GT3 RSR? Or will they still use it in future versions of the GT3 Cup and GT3-R too? |

My problem with this car - and with the 3.8 RS - is that they are trying to serve a dual pupose, namely being a road car but great on the track. No use. You cannot have both.
My RS is great on the track, truly amazing, now after 2 track days and alignment I can say the step from the M3 on the track is as large as the step to the M3 from a Audi A4. But, and here is a big but the car is not good as a road car, just isn't. So I am thinking right now - and I thought about the new 4.0 RS too and dismissed- to get the Cup S or a Radical SR8. No reason to go halfway. (my prior reason was not to have a trailer) |

Thank goodness someone is still committed to natural aspiration and a true manual trans!
The majority of the M3 clan can't upgrade to a GT3 until they get a PDK version.

I don't ever plan to buy a GT3 (well, at least not a new one) however if I were somehow in the market for cars in this price range, while I could easily manage the 6MT, I have to admit the lack of PDK availability would probably be a deal breaker for me. That said, I'd happily take a 997 GT3 Cup with the six speed sequential manual. Don't need a "D" mode, but am very much addicted to clutchless shifting now. Actually, it's too bad they don't put that transmission in the road going Metzger-powered cars.

In 2011 --- they make 22 different versions of the 911's. That is no lie. Go to their website and check it out.

You are all forgetting that BMW sells 18 versions of the 3-series in the US! In Europe there are over 90 models and 30 different sedans!

So why can't the S65 produced 335 lbs-ft of torque? I would LOVE that.
And why is it, Porsche can make money on all these limited run, special editions, but BMW can't bring over a GTS type car here? Because it cost too much to federalize?? Really?? .

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."
