Tires replacement.

Hey guys have a question. I have the OEM 18's on the M3 coupe. Can I go 275-40z18? Seems that there are more tire choices as well as better prices. I am only changing my rears as my fronts are still very good. Does it make a difference putting on two brands for front and rear? I am not trying to cheap out on buying tire but I am not getting the Micheling Pilots again, going with the Hancook v12's. Thanks for any help.

That tire size is slightly bigger than stock (26.6"), but it will work on the stock 18's.

It's not a good idea to use two different tire brands on the same car...

Why?
I have been doing that for over 10 years. Right now I run Bridgestone Scuderias upfront and Pirelli pzeros out back with zero issues.

I am thinking of going that route also. The only person had done that will give you the correct answer. Why dont you try it if doesn't work out then sale them to me. Dont worry about someone saying you are cheap, its your money. The 275 actually about 30 to 40usd cheaper than the 265. Check out SUMITOMO.

How funny, I was going to start a similar thread myself. I'm getting ready to replace my rear tires too, but am thinking about going with a PS2 275/35ZR18, designed for a MB. ($332 @ Tire Rack) I figure the slightly smaller diameter ought to give the car a little more low end torque feel. Plus the MB model has the same tire weight and should have a similar internal structural design.

Thanks for the input guys. I am actually thinking of going with the Hancook v12's or the new Continental ContiExtremeContacts (50,000mile tread wear warranty) I talked with a guy at tirerack.com and he said two brands front and back are not a problem. Side to side is. He stated that sizes need to be consistent in round diameter. Now putting snow tires in the front and performance in the rear is not wise either.
