That is quite the endeavor.

Who will be doing your tuning?

I havent decided yet. I would like to do it myself but I have made no progress on finding out where to buy the software to do it. I have contacted some companys who qouted me $2000 for development of the tune that I can do myself if i had software.

Even if you figure out the basics, there are probably some tuning secrets (relationships between different parameters) that you won't know. The kit makers won't help you compete with them, so I would look at the other tuners like Mike Benvo and Bren aka M3DCTBT.

No need for the YSi Trim unless you are planning on more than a T Trim or Si Trim can provide, which is in the 600+ rwhp range. And you need a built low compression motor for that or E85.

I'm going to try for 1000whp or as close as I can get without going nuts. The biggest issue I can see at the moment is the stock 6 rib system wont support that kind of power. I picked up the v7 ysi for next to nothing brand new although not my first choice it will do just fine.

Good luck. In my opinion, a centrifugal is not the smart way to massive power on a relatively small displacement high revving low torque motor. Turbo is the way to go for 1000 rwhp -- and 250% stock power is requires massive work even with a turbo. And that is before you get into tuning.

Look at all the money WiziGuy dumped into his YSi Trim E46M3 before giving up before it was completed. Unless you are a welder and a fabricator with a machine shop or friends who have one, this will be a tough project.

I own Real Performance speed shop in Reno. I do custom swaps and turbo builds all the time. Right now Im swapping a turbo LSx setup into a 2010 genesis coupe for instance. I picked up this v7 ysi big block chevy kit brand new for $1725 today. I already sold the carb and hat for $1000 so im into it $725. 1000whp is not my dead set goal but i would like to get close. This motor with pistons rods and quality fasteners should handle that power level just fine.

I am not going to rain on your parade, but nobody has been successful on 1000hp, not even the built engines. Not even the big guys with lower compression engines have come close to that. Better get your wallet out and do a tremendous amount of research before starting.

I'm sure you can build the hardware and engine to pull the power. But as you said, finding the tools to properly tune the DME is the hard part. I imagine buying the software and files/maps to tune this DME to be INCREDIBLY expensive.

$2000 for someone to tune the car is actually much better than I expected...That sounds like it would end up being the more affordable route.

If I had the software to interact with the dme it wouldnt be a problem. I wish I could just plug in my laptop and use HP Tuners lol

don't listen to some of these ass hats. Good luck to you. The problem is that not many others have tried to make massive power and cranked the boost up to 20lbs even on the built motor cars. I would def without a doubt ditch the stock DME and look at Autronic or Pectecl (super nice ECU setup). You could also do a custom AEM standalone with custom harness which would def be a cheaper setup. The stock DME has a pretty advanced knock control system so you would lose that going A/M although I am sure you can use a separate knock control or use the built in on hte A/M EMS systems. But as someone esle had said; I would def go turbo considering this car likes to rev. It would be a lot more fun. You could even get away (possibly) with the stock manifolds and use a crossover somewhere. Anyways, good luck on the build. They also sell a new belt setup that should help w/ slippage. Or really step you game up and run a cog setup!!

Again Good Luck!

Sounds like a fun project...glad to hear that you want to push the limit!

You probably already know this but Powerchips does one-off stuff for all kinds of boosted BMW's...and from what I remember they did some of the first blown e9X M3's before everyone else got into the game.

I still might go turbo If I come accross a deal I cant pass up. My original plan was to build a d1sc kit for e9x m3's and try for 800hp.

The block design looks very stout the heads are very efficient I see no reason why a 1000hp would be impossible with forced induction.

No that old! IIRC, his name is Cameron. I'm sure one could find his threads over on the m3forum.
