Need winter tire help ASAP PA3 vs. LM60
Well we got our first snow here today in Denver and that is not good news for my M3 since my stock PS2s are pretty much shot.
So, I am planing on replacing all the tires on my Stock 19in 220m's with either Michelin PA3's or Blizzak LM-60's. Here is my delima.... I have a truck for really bad snow days but I still like to drive my car as much as possible in the winter. I am most concerned about what tires will work best on mostly plowed roads or when I get caught out in a freak snow storm. That being said, I like the more aggressive look of the PA3s but I have seen some bad forum reviews on here. I know the LM-60s will probably kick ass in any condition but I dont know if I need that much snow grip and I really hate the monster truck look of the tread. Also, the stock PS2s are 265/35 and 245/35; I really like those sizes but from what I can tell, the closest size for both PA3s and LM-60s would be 255/35 all the way around. What do you guys think? Does anybody have a pict of a 255/35 set up on OEM 19s?

I have the PA3s on a dedicated set of cheap wheels with a square set-up of 235 all around.
I think that you are trying to do too many things with winter tires. To me it seems that you only need to have all season tires that would work in snow, so why don't you consider Continental DWSs??

Sid, by all means do NOT attempt to use all seasons on the M. You will most definitely end up in a ditch! Blizzaks all the way. Lets hit the links again and I will spew snow tire knowledge on your ass all day
The 255 rears will just have a little stretch to them and won't look terrible. As far as going to a narrower size, that is beneficial in snowy conditions. Check out every rally car's tires for dirt/mud/snow; the tires are extremely narrow to cut through the slop as opposed to plow through it. Blizzaks are what I have run on all of my cars since I was a kid and I absolutely love them. Last edited by Zba; 10-09-2011 at 10:01 AM.. |

I'd vote for LM60s for sure. Iirc, they come in 255/275, no?

You definitely will not end up in a ditch with all season tires unless your in a blizzard. I run Michelin Pilot AS Plus tires on my 220's in the winter and have no issues in minor snow storms. If you didn't have a truck for really bad weather I would agree to put on dedicated snow's but you should be fine with all seasons. FYI I run 255's up front and 275's in the rear.
