Is it jealousy or anger
I love my e9x M3. When it came to the streets people in the press complained about everything from the steering to how low the exhaust hung. Even after it wiped the floor with greater than 90% of the competition, it had to earn it's respect every step of the way. 1M hits the ground at it's the e30 reincarnated (as per several articles). Magazines are stating they would take 1M over the M3. Am I in the matrix? Has the world gone mad? Maybe I'm just jealous. I actually feel bad because I wanted to see a bad review on the 1M. How bad is that!

Everyone has their priorities. If I was into turbo engines, I'd be all over the 1M. To me, it is a good car wasted due to a stupid engine...

eh its new thats why... plus its just a matter of time that the 1M will be faster than the M3 after couple mods here and there. minor mods on FI is crazy with massive HP increase. so maybe on your point... anger...

I'd say its insecurity as well.
Everyone loves the underdog, if something comes close or beats the M3 then its news worthy. SO be it.

Why would you want to see a "bad" review on the 1M? To answer your question, is it bad that you feel this way....there is definitely some serious insecurities at play that not even a Bugatti is going to cure here!

Sounds like a little of both jealousy and anger. You're only human.
I haven't driven a 1M, but the S65, DCT, and folding hard top are my favorite parts of my car. I can't see myself prefering a 1M. Now, when it comes to the next generation F3x M3 vs. the F2x 1M, it might be different since the M3 loses the N/A V8 and the 1M gains DCT. I can probably do without the hard top. |

The 1M is a great car and it's brand new where as the current M3 is at the end of it's life cycle. At the same time, to me, the 1M isn't an all around great car. It's an amazing drivers car but it leaves a lot to be desired as an all around useful car.
The 1M has set the bar pretty high for an entry level M car so I can only hope and imagine that BMW will make the next M3 pretty spectacular. Frankly it will have to be pretty spectacular to put some distance between it and the 1M.

Flavor of the moment? Seems like it will be the flavor of the future and the only powerplant you will get from an M car for the foreseeable future.

Yes, but 1M chassis=M3 chassis, not the 1series chassis.

I should have said "platform", not "chassis". But yes, it is true that the 1M borrows some parts from the M3. Though I would actually be surprised if there were that many parts that are truly the exact same part number. Wheels and differential are obviously the same, but it would be interesting to see how many of the steering and suspension parts truly bolt right up.

My M3 is my first high revving car. When I bought it, the (high revving) NA engine with wide power band was not the main reason why I bought it. I enjoyed cornering fast and wanted to get one of the best street cars on the market that would provide a track quality performance. Little did I know, the high revving engine captivated me. I am now addicted to 7K, 8K and beyond too. Addicted to the predictability of S65 performance. Addicted to the precision handling, I could play soccer with the front wheels. Addicted to S65 roar from 4K to redline. I am so happy with this car I could care less about the 1M.
I'm not an expert in cars but I believe 1M competition is more like WRX/STI.

I feel your pain brother...I was kind of hating on the 1M as well, but after reading the reviews it seems like a pretty well built machine (however I would have to drive it to really form my own opinion). Would I ever buy a 1M...No! I'm still not fully convinced it's a real M, due to the fact that it does not have a unique engine, and IMO the performance numbers aren't too far off from the 135. In terms of the critiques...that's what happens when your on the top...everyone uses you as the benchmark...and that's why the M3 is being used as the comparison. We all know when it comes on to overall performance in a daily driver, the M3 reigns supreme and always will!!!

OP, when you see your first 1M on the street.....take 'em out and you'll feel so much better. Seriously, it's par for the course. There is a buying group for the 1M and BMW knows this. By having a new enrty level ///M car, they accomplish a couple of things. They target a group that was not BMW drunk and this could move the price of the ///M3 up a few grand making it a more exclusive (for a lack of better words) car. The next gen ///M3 will reclaim it's place in the line up and the segment overall. It's not the end of a era, it's a new beginning in the ///M division. Change is good .............Phil
