Norcal roads. Highway 84 traffic?
I didnt want to post this in the norcal section since it's not related to bimmers so I thought i'd try it post it here. Anyone ever take or do currently take highway 84 between the east bay and south bay? I'm in the process of finding a new place to live and one option is to live at a friend's place in Union City. I work in San Ramon and I want to avoid taking 880 b/c of the nasty congestion on that freeway. Someone suggested taking 680 south to 84 all the way to Union City, but I'm not sure how much traffic congestion there is on that highway since it may be 2 lanes.
Is there some sort of website that would give suggestions and feedback from the community in regards to shortcuts, etc..? I know it's a long shot, but whatever. Thanks |

Try driving it during the times you commute. Or, you can check Yahoo Maps for traffic info. I'd think that 84 (Niles Canyon Rd.) would be quite congested.

yeah i guess that's the best thing to do is to actually drive it. I'll probably just do that in the next week or so on a weekday. I'll also check the caltrans or other traffic sites before i get off work to see if it shows any heavy congestion.

What I hear about Niles Canyon is that it's hit or miss. This means that normally it's fine, but whenever there's an accident or something, it's completely ****ed.

also, try checking www.511.org during commute hours to see how bad it looks. is 84 the only road that cuts over to 680 from 880/fremont/union city? i thought i remember another road on the map (but that might end up in tracy/livermore, ha ha)

I'm trying to prevent going on 880, let alone 238, so I'm curious about 84 which seems to lead directly to union city. |
